Academic Excellence

Eastern Washington Athletics takes great pride in the achievements of student-athletes not only on the field, court or track, but in the classroom.

“Our Eagle student-athletes continue to display incredible dedication in the classroom,” said Director of Athletics Tim Collins in January 2024. “They consistently show what it means to be an Eag and we are proud of their achievements.

“(Our academic excellence) is also a reflection of the commitment our coaches and staff have in supporting our student-athletes’ holistic development. In this case, coaches and staff take initiative and embrace the responsibility in supporting student-athlete academic success. These efforts are beyond their duties as recruiters and tacticians to their specific sport.”

Academic Progress Rate

Eastern Washington athletics continues to maintain good standing with the NCAA as all 12 of the its Division I programs carried an Academic Progress Rate (APR) multiyear score above 930 for 2023-24.

Men's and women's tennis continue to lead the academic success for Eastern, each posting a 1,000 multiyear score  for ‘23-'24.

Since 2004-25, Eastern's programs have earned 42 perfect multiyear scores. Leading the way is the women's tennis program, which has earned a perfect score in 10 years, including seven consecutive 2016-17.

The APR holds institutions accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes through a team-based metric that accounts for the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term. This measures not only grades but also eligibility for competition and retention to the school.
