Cheney, Wash. – The Eastern Washington women's soccer team fell 0-1 to Idaho's single goal which found the back of the net in the opening minutes of the second half on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Won-Loss Records
The Eagles fall to 5-6 on the year and to 2-3 in the Big Sky Conference, while the Vandals improved to 4-10-1 overall and to 4-1-1 in the conference.
Turning Point
Both teams battled for possession and scoring opportunities throughout the first half and despite being outshot in the opening period, the Eagles had more accurate shooting, earning four shots on goal compared to one for UI.
The first and only goal of the day was scored just as the second half started, in 47th minute, to give Idaho a 1-0 lead that would hold for the whole match. However, Eastern didn't quit and continued to fight for scoring chances, firing a late salvo of four shots, all within the last five minutes of the match.
Top Performers
Freshman Savannah Hoekstra led the entire Eastern team in shots with three.
Senior Cassie Black, senior Haley Stading, and freshman Sydney Shintaffer all took two swings at the goal this afternoon.
Black and Hoekstra also tallied a total of four shots on goal.
Key Stats
The Eagles trailed the Vandals in shots in the first half, but led in the second, finishing with a total of 11 shots to UI's 15.
Eastern, however, was more accurate with their attempts over the course of the competition, earning seven shots on goal compared to Idaho's three.

"We weren't as sharp in front of the goal and I thought were reacting a lot instead of anticipating. If in the last 10 minutes we would have anticipated some things, we would have scored some goals. We just waited too long to get that sense of urgency…but credit to Idaho for coming back and finding a style to give people problems."
Game Notes
* Senior defender Katie Cashman was held out of today's match due a red card against Sacramento State.
*Eastern was held scoreless for the first time this year, snapping its scoring streak at 10 total games.
*The Eagles faced Idaho in a nonconference match for Eastern's third game of the season and won by a score of 4-0.
