Won-Loss Records
The Eagles improve to 7-6 overall, and to 4-3 in the Big Sky Conference. The Lumberjacks fall to 7-5-3 for the year, and to 3-2-2 in the league.
Turning Point
After Eastern and NAU traded shot for shot in the first 20 minutes, freshman Chloe Williams was able to give EWU an early lead. In another terrific individual effort, Williams took a shot which sailed just out of the reach of the keeper and into the back of net.
Following her goal, the game would not see any other goals scored. EWU's defensive backline insured the victory by limiting the Lumberjack offense to only a small number of quality chances throughout the match.
Top Performers
Williams and senior Cassie Black were the only Eastern players to register shots on the day. Black totaled an impressive six shots, a number she reached once before this season against Weber State, while Williams tallied three shots of her own.
With her fifth shutout win this season, senior goalkeeper Nathalie Schwery, with the assistance of the EWU backline, was able to pick up a total of six saves this afternoon.
Quoting Coach Bodnar
"This was a huge road trip for us this weekend. This trip is a real tough one travel wise for anyone and playing in the altitude makes it even harder. Our group collectively decided they wanted to stay in the hunt this weekend. The back four were outstanding and Nat made some huge saves this weekend, but the whole group worked hard, stayed organized, and were just tough to break down. Chloe came up with another huge goal for us today and all 18 of our players that travelled worked hard and were a part of it. It was a great weekend for us as a program against two good opponents.
Game Notes
*Williams has now scored in two straight matches, with today's goal being her sixth of the 2014 season. Williams is now the first freshman to score six goals in a season since 2011 when Black also scored six times in her opening year.
*Schwery is now tied for first in program history for the most shutouts in a single season with five.
*This is the first time Eagles have had seven wins in a season since 2009.
*It is also the first time EWU has beaten NAU since 2004 and is only the second win for Eastern at the Lumberjack's home field.
