@EWUSoccer Offense Continues to Set Records in Loss to Hawai'i

Missoula, Mont. - The Eastern Washington University women's soccer team set a program record for the most goals to open a season but fell to Hawai'i, 3-1, it its first match as part of the Montana Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19.

Won-Loss Records
The Eagles drop to an overall record of 2-3 on the season while Hawai'i improved to a record of 4-5.

Turning Point
Midway through the first half freshman Chloe Williams was able to convert an incredible through ball from sophomore Paige Gallaway into a goal to that would even the game out to a score of 1-1. Williams was able to find the back of the net after beating the Hawai'i goalkeeper one on one.

However, the Rainbow Warriors would later respond with a goal of their own with only four minutes remaining in the first half. Hawai'i would regain its lead off of a free kick which bounced off the cross bar and into the feet of a Hawai'i player. The Rainbow Warriors would not relinquish their advantage for the remainder of the match.

Top Performers
Williams scored Eastern Washington's only goal of the game in in the 31st minute.

Gallaway took two shots of her own on top of her one assist.

Senior Cassie Black led the entire Eagle offense with a total of three shots with one shot being on goal.

Quoting Coach Bodnar
"Today we possessed the ball better than ever have. We went down a goal and responded nicely which is better than what we have done before. We defended pretty well, but it is the little things we have to keep improving on. I think these games are the ones we can get results out of. We're going to come back on Sunday and try to get better to go 3-3 to start the season."

Williams was able to score her first goal of her career and of the season in today's matchup.
* The Eagles have scored goals in the first five matches of this year which ties the previous program record which occurred back in 2011.
*Eastern has also scored a total of 10 goals throughout the first five games of the year, beating the previous best of nine.
