Eagles Fall Victim To Late Run, Drop Road Contest At Northern Colorado

Box Score

Greeley, Colo. – A late run from host Northern Colorado proved too much for the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team to overcome, as the Eagles fell, 64-56, to the Bears in a Big Sky Conference counter at Bank of Colorado Arena Thursday, Jan. 22.

Win-Loss Records
The setback drops EWU to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in league play while Northern Colorado improves to 9-8 on the season at 3-3 in conference action.

What It Means
Eastern saw its stretch of consecutive road wins end at four straight, the longest since the 2011-12 season. EWU has now lost back-to-back games for the first time since November. The loss puts the Eagles in a three-way tie for third place in the Big Sky standings with North Dakota and Southern Utah.

Turning Point
A back-and-forth affair throughout the opening 30 minutes, a jumper from sophomore Jade Redmon evened the score at 49-49 with 8:24 left in the second half. Northern Colorado's D'Shara Strange put back her own miss on the Bears' next trip down the court, igniting an 11-0 run over the next four minutes that gave the hosts a 60-49 advantage.

The Eagles had one final run in them, crawling back to within six, 62-56, with a little over one minute left, but would get no closer than that as Strange knocked down a pair of free throws to close out the win.

Quoting @EWUCoachSchu
"We had some untimely turnovers there during that stretch in the second half that allowed them to go on a run. They made some big shots, and I thought Strange really took the game over for a couple of minutes there. She was a beast on the boards and did a little bit of everything for them."

Game Notes
* Nelson's 11 points moved her into fifth all-time on Eastern's career scoring list. She now has 1,900 career points in 79 career games.

* Williams recorded double-figure rebounds for the second straight game and the ninth time this season.

* EWU is now 1-2 on the year when being held to less than 60 points.
