Results: Day One | Day Two
At the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, the heptathlon and decathlon wrapped up today (May 9) for the Eastern Washington University track and field team with freshman Quintin Porterfield placing eighth overall and 6,038 points, the best performance by an Eagle between the two days of competition.
Â
Porterfield's best performance was in the 100-meter dash, earning second with a time of 10.99 and 863 points. He also took fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.68 for 829 points.
Â
Sophomore Forrest Wallace also competed on the men's side, placing 10th overall with 5,657 points. He took first in the high jump with a mark of 6-5 and also took second in both the javelin (158-3) and the 1,500 meters (4:34.02).
"Coach Nielsen did a great job in getting the men on the scoreboard with Quintin picking up eighth place," men's head coach Stan Kerr said. "It is exciting to see a true freshman compete at this level knowing that his best decathlons are to come. Forrest also had a good meet and will come back and compete in the high jump on Friday."
Â
On the women's side, freshman Jessica Linde placed ninth with 4,319 points. Her best finish was in the 800-meter run, placing third with a time of 2:25.51, good for 750 points. Freshman Cierra Kohlman also competed on the women's side, taking 13th overall with 3,732 points.
Â
"It was a great finish for heptathlon freshmen, Jessica Linde and Cierra Kohlman," women's head coach Marcia Mecklenburg said. "Both of them set personal records in almost every heptathlon event. Their improvement in the overall heptathlon scores was huge. If the rest of the team can get the kind of improvements that Jessica and Cierra got, we will have a great meet."
