Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Eagles Topped by Vandals

Second half gets away from Eastern in a 75-46 loss

CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team hosted Idaho tonight (Feb. 13) at Reese Court where they lost by a score of 75-46.

Both Bella Cravens and Jenna Dick led the team with 12 points. Cravens also added eight rebounds and three blocks.

"We had a disappointing second half. In the first half, we played hard and did the things that were necessary to be in a position to be successful. We came out in the third quarter, they came out on a run, but I was pleased with us answering that run," said head coach Wendy Schuller. "We got the ball inside and got some transition baskets, but when (Idaho's) Gina Marxen went down that threw a wrench in things. There's no excuse to let something like that end our run and I have to do a better job of finding ways for us to get refocused quickly in those moments and continue fighting and pressing on."

There were four lead changes within the first five minutes before Eastern fell scoreless for 3:42 and Idaho pulled ahead 12-8. Kennedy Dickie snapped the cold spell with a triple from the corner to put EWU back within one, 12-11. From there, Idaho responded with a 9-0 run over 1:08 to take a 21-11 lead into the second quarter.

The Eagles used 12-1 run during the second quarter and held the Vandals without a field goal for 3:57, coming within a point, 24-23. Idaho put a stop to the run with 1:40 left in the half to retake a 26-23 lead, but it didn't last long after a Jenna Dick three-pointer tied the game, 26-26. UI would get the final say, closing the half on a quick 5-0 run to lead 31-26.

Idaho came out and used an 8-2 run to retake a 41-28 advantage. A 6-0 run by the Eagles forced a Vandal timeout, as EWU cut their deficit back down to single digits, 41-34. With less than five minutes to play in the third, Idaho found momentum after they made two free throws following a technical foul and began to pull away, outscoring the Eagles 11-5 in the final minutes to take a 54-39 lead with a quarter to go.

Despite keeping the Vandals scoreless for the final 3:51 of play, Idaho outscored Eastern Washington 21-7 in the fourth quarter en route to the 75-46 victory.
