Eastern Washington Ends Regular Season with Overtime Loss at Weber State

Grace Kirscher (31) and Jessica McDowell-White (22) each set new career-highs to help the Eagles erase a 17-point deficit at the half

OGDEN, Utah – It was a battle in Ogden, Utah, tonight where the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team took on hosts Weber State for the final regular season game of the season. The Eagles clawed back from a 17-point deficit at halftime, but fell 83-77 in overtime.

Grace Kirscher (31) and Jessica McDowell-White (22) each notched career-highs in the loss and combined for 13 of the team's 14 three-pointers. Kirscher also finished with seven rebounds along with Bella Cravens, while McDowell-White had another four- assist game.

"That was a tough loss today. We really dug ourselves a hole in the first half. I was proud of our effort in the second half, we played hard and Grace Kirscher and Jessica McDowell-White put on an offensive exhibition," said head coach Wendy Schuller. "It was hard with Bella Cravens in foul trouble and I think down the stretch we really ran out of gas. We're ready to turn the page, get a couple days rest, and move on to Boise."

Jenna Dick and Kirscher hit consecutive three-pointers to open up a 6-2 lead over the Wildcats in the early goings. After the game moved into an 8-8 tie, Weber State pulled ahead 13-8. Despite shooting 50 percent from the field in the first quarter, the Eagles could never come within three points and trailed 22-16 heading into the second.

The Eagles were outscored 23-12 in the second quarter and shot just 28.6 percent overall to trail the Wildcats 45-28 at the half.

It was the McDowell-White and Kirscher show in the third quarter, each hitting a three-pointer for a 6-0 run. McDowell-White added 11 points with three three-pointers during the third while Kirscher added 13 and four triples. Kirscher knocked a three-pointer down and was fouled, completing the four-point play for a 7-0 run. She would tack on another to cap a 10-0 Eastern Washington run. Despite outscoring WSU 27-16 in the third quarter, the Eagles still trailed 61-55.

With 4:40 left in the fourth quarter, Eastern used a 6-0 run to tie the game, 68-68. A McDowell-White jumper made it 70-68, giving the Eagles their first lead since the early goings. Weber State tied the game back up with 1:57 to go before a Cravens jumper put the Eagles back in the lead with 42 seconds remaining. However, with 24 seconds left the Wildcats hit the equalizing jumper. Neither team found any good chances in the remaining seconds, sending the game into overtime knotted at 72-72.

Kennedy Dickie made the first basket of the overtime period, but the Eagles were outscored 11-5 en route to the 83-77 decision.
