Eastern Washington Wins Third-Straight with 78-57 Victory over Weber State

The Eagles drain 14 three-pointers and have four in double figures led by Jenna Dick with 21 points and a double-double from Aaliyah Alexander

CHENEY, Wash. – For the third-straight game, the Eastern Washington University women's basketball team finds themselves in the win column following a 78-57 victory over Weber State at Reese Court tonight (Jan. 7). After today, the Eagles improve to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in Big Sky Conference play.
 
Eastern Washington made 14 three-pointers for the second time this season, which is tied for third in single-game history. Additionally, 22 of their 26 field goals were assisted.
 
Jenna Dick led the Eagles with 21 points after making six three-pointers, which is tied for ninth all-time in single game history to go with a career-high six assists. Maisie Burnham followed with 18 points and six rebounds for her fifth-straight game in double figures.
 
Aaliyah Alexander earned her first career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, she was also three assists shy of a triple-double with eight assists. Junior Grace Kirscher added 15 points as well, and etched her name in the EWU record book after making her 121st career three-pointer which ties for 10th all-time.
 
"I saw great defensive energy and effort tonight, the team worked hard to stick to the game plan and we had a good scout," said head coach Wendy Schuller. "Every day, we're trying to work as a team to get a little bit better. We're focused on the process and taking it one game and one day at a time and that's been a key to our success."
 
Eastern Washington ended the first quarter on a 5-0 run and led 13-8. The run extended into the second quarter and stretched to 10-0 to put the Eagles ahead by 10, 21-11. EWU outscored the Wildcats 27-18 in the second frame after shooting 55.6 percent from the field with five three-pointers. After 20 minutes of play, the Eagles led 40-26 heading into the locker room.
 
Weber State did not back down quietly – opening the second half on a 10-3 run to cut its deficit to seven points, 43-36 and they eventually got within five points, making it a 47-42 game. After that, the Eagles found their footing after an 8-0 run, that included two three-pointers from Dick, put them back up by 13 points and headed into the fourth with a 57-44 lead.
 
Eastern's lead continued to grow in the fourth, stretching to 22 points with 4:14 to play. They would outscore the Wildcats 21-13 in the final ten minutes of action, draining four more three-pointers to claim their third-straight victory by a final score of 78-57.
 
WIN-LOSS RECORDS: Eastern Washington improves to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in Big Sky play, while Weber State falls to 0-6 and 0-3.
 
TOP PERFORMANCES: Jenna Dick led all scorers with a season-high 21 points for her third 20-plus point performance from her career. She made six three-pointers (6-10) for the second time in her young career, which ties for ninth all-time in EWU history. The sophomore also dished a career-high six assists and was 7-12 from the field overall.
 
Maisie Burnham scored in double figures for the fifth-straight game. The freshman was 7-16 from the field and grabbed six rebounds and led the team with four steals.
 
Freshman Aaliyah Alexander earned the first double-double of her career with 15 points and 12 rebounds – marking the second-straight game an Eagle has had a double-double. She also had a career-high eight assists, coming just shy of a triple double. She was just 3-11 from the field, but was 7-8 at the free throw line and made two three-pointers.
 
Grace Kirscher scored 15 points and made three three-pointers, putting her at 121 in her career which ties for 10th all-time in the EWU record book. She also had three assists.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Eastern Washington was 26-64 from the field (40.6%), 14-32 from three-point range (43.8%) and 12-13 from the free throw line (92.3%).
 
Twenty-two of their 26 baskets were assisted and they had 14 turnovers but forced 21 – turning them in to 20 points.
 
Weber State out-rebounded the Eagles 44 to 35 and also outscored them in the paint, 32 points to 24. The Wildcats were 20-61 from the field (32.8%), and just 4-21 from three-point range and 13-18 from the charity stripe.
