Eastern Washington University has hired
Krizzel Galvez as a new assistant athletic trainer with responsibilities working with women's basketball. She will begin her new duties on July 1.
Â
The graduate of UNLV and Weber State joins a staff that includes assistant athletic director for sports medicine
Wes Sohns, as well as associate athletic trainers Venessa Nersten and Hailey Haukeli. Nersten is the head athletic trainer for football, and Haukeli worked with basketball and golf last season. She recently was promoted to associate athletic trainer, which includes taking over coordination of insurance for EWU's student-athletes.

Galvez returns to the west after spending two years at North Carolina A&T as a certified athletic trainer intern. She had main responsibilities with volleyball and the men's and women's tennis programs, and also assisted with softball, baseball, women's basketball, football and track and field.
Â
She helped NCAT advance to the NCAA Volleyball Championship for the first time in program history. During her time in North Carolina, she also served as an athletic trainer at numerous soccer, rugby and lacrosse events.
Â
Prior to that, Galvez was at Weber State where she received her master's degree in athletic training in April of 2019. She was an assistant athletic trainer for the softball program there, and helped the Wildcats advance to the NCAA Tournament. She also worked with volleyball, men's basketball and track and field.
Â
She earned her bachelor's degree from UNLV in May of 2016. Galvez received her degree in kinesiology with a concentration on allied health science. She is originally from Las Vegas and attended Las Vegas High School.
