SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Eastern Washington Cross Country wrapped up their season on Friday morning in Sacramento, finishing 26th (women) and 25th (men) at the NCAA Division I West Region Cross Country Championships.

"I'm really proud of the season both teams put together this year," said head coach Sam Read. "Today was a tougher day for us. I think the emotional high from both programs coming off a good finish at conference wore us down and we didn't quite seem like ourselves. We did a good job battling and we left it all out there. Big things coming this track season!"

The Eagle women earned a score of 726 in the 6K, good for 26th, five places behind conference rival Idaho (626; 22nd). Redshirt sophomore Lilly Fetzer was the top finisher for EWU, running 21:19.8 for 112th. Eastern also finished 129th, 133rd, 178th and 181st.

"Lilly led the way for us today and has finished the last two races with her best," Read said. "Veteran leadership stepping up in championship racing."

Women's 6K (EWU finishers)
In the men's 8K, Eastern finished 25th with 630 points. Cam McChesney led the team for the first time this season, crossing 108th with a 31:25.00 time.

"Cam was our top runner for the first time this season and really moved well in the middle of the race. Not far behind, Jesus had a huge bounce-back race from conference."

Men's 10K (EWU finishers)
Next up is the indoor track and field season, which will open on December 9 at The Podium in Spokane before the bulk of the season kicks off in January. View the full 2023-24 EWU Track & Field schedule here.
