CHENEY, Wash. — New Eastern Washington University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Collins was introduced on campus for the first time at a press conference on Thursday afternoon. Collins, who officially starts in the role on July 15, was
announced earlier this month after a nationwide search.
"As the process unfolded, it was clear to me that the President's vision for Eastern Washington University supported a strong and thriving Athletics Department, and one that had room for an Athletics Department that supported a strong and vibrant campus," Collins said. "Ultimately, that's our responsibility in athletics, we amplify the mission of the university."
Collins most recently served as the senior associate athletics director for development at Fresno State in California and brings more than 18 years of intercollegiate athletics experience both in executive leadership positions and as a college basketball coach.
"I'm the son of an educator. I'm a former coach and a tireless fundraiser. But I'm a collaborator, and what's exciting about today, it's not about me. It's about everyone in this room. What's exciting is what we can all come together to accomplish," Collins continued.
"We're going to have three areas of focus in our department… three areas of service. One, we're going to serve our student-athletes and their holistic development. Second, we're going to serve our campus, and third, we're going to serve our community."
Prior to his tenure at Fresno, Collins served administrative roles at Wyoming and Black Hills State (S.D.) after starting his career as a college basketball coach, including a stint at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho from 2008-10. He earned a bachelor's degree in humanities from Loyola Marymount University in 2005 and a master's degree in organizational management and sport administration from Chadron State (Neb.) in 2008.
