Soccer opens up their 2025 campaign with two matches, one away and one at home

CHENEY, Wash. — The Eagles' fall season is officially underway! Soccer kicks things off on the road against Seattle University, before returning to Cheney for their home opener against Southern Utah this Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Football's fall camp is in full swing and are set to host the first scrimmage in Spokane.

Football - Red Turf Takeover at ONE Spokane Stadium (Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6 PM), Scrimmage #1

Eastern Washington football will switch home fields up this Thursday and travel to Spokane for the Red Turf Takeover at the ONE Spokane Stadium. The Eagles host their first scrimmage of fall camp at the stadium. 

Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.and the scrimmage is free and open to the public, with gates opening at 5 p.m.  

In recognition of Spokane County's team holding their first event in downtown Spokane, the first 509 fans through the gates will receive a free hot dog. Post-scrimmage, the Eagle student-athletes will be available for autographs and photos. 

The EWU Cheer Team, Swoop, and more Eastern partners will be on the stadium's main concourse throughout the event. Fans attending also will have the opportunity to receive exclusive Eastern athletics ticket offers.


Eastern's first scrimmage is part of the team's preparation for the first game of the season on Aug. 30 against Incarnate Word in San Antonio. EWU's home opener is on Sep. 20 against Western Illinois and kickoff is at 4 p.m. for Welcome Weekend and Rush Roos.


Women's Soccer – at Seattle University (Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6:00 PM), vs. Southern Utah (Sunday, Aug. 17 at 12:00 PM)

Coming off a third-place finish in the Big Sky Conference last season, Eastern Washington women's soccer has been picked to finish second in the 2025 Big Sky Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced Monday.

The Eagles kick off the new season on the road at Seattle University on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6:00 p.m., before returning to Cheney for their home opener against Southern Utah on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 12:00 p.m.


Head coach Missy Strasburg enters her fifth year at the helm after earning Big Sky Coach of the Year honors in 2024. Eastern earned 52 points and two first-place votes in the preseason poll, finishing just eight points behind top-ranked Montana, which claimed six first-place votes and 60 points. Strasburg led the Eagles from an eighth-place preseason ranking to a third-place finish last season.


Eastern concluded the 2024 season with a 9-5-5 overall record and a 4-1-3 mark in conference play. The Eagles return 17 players, including eight starters, and welcome 12 newcomers to the roster.


Senior Chloe Pattison enters her final collegiate season after earning Big Sky Co-Offensive MVP honors in 2024. She was also named the conference's Preseason MVP and is the only Eagle selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Pattison led both the team and the league with 11 goals last season—four more than any other player in the conference.


Other key returners for Eastern include goalkeeper Kamryn Willoughby; forwards Charity Freeman and Kendall Moore; defenders Riley Arribas, Iris Mattern, and Ryanne Ampi; and midfielders Genesis and Beccado.
