2019-2020 Track and Field: Indoor: Shurtliff won the Big Sky Conference championship in the heptathlon and then placed second in the pole vault to earn All-Big Sky honors at the league championships in Pocatello, Idaho. He closed out his first appearance at a Big Sky championship event with a school-record 5,285 points in the heptathlon, eclipsing the previous record of 5,222 points set by Kersee Lind in 2012. Shurtliff had scored 5,212 earlier in the season to rank second in school history. He won the Big Sky heptathlon title – EWU's first-ever and just the third top-three performance in 33 years in the league – by 174 points. Shurtliff had an effort of 16-5 1/2 in the pole vault to move up to third in EWU history. He and winner Trey Deveraux of Weber State both cleared 16-5 1/2 on their first attempts, and both missed all three attempts at 16-7 1/2. The difference in placing came at 16-3 1/2 in which Deveraux passed, and Shurtliff cleared on his second attempt, thus giving Deveraux the title based on fewer misses. Shurtliff also competed in the high jump but no-heighted. He had a time of 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles at the Boise State Challenge to rank 10th all-time at EWU. Not only did Shurtliff set his career best mark of 22-7 1/4 in the long jump and 6-4 3/4 in the high jump during the Boise State Challenge, he also set his career best time in the 200 meters of 23.27.
Lane CC: As a sophomore, Shurtliff competed at the 2017 NWAC Championship and placed third in the high jump with a new personal-best height of 6-7. At the same event Shurliff placed third in the pole vault with a new personal best of 16-0, and placed second in the long jump with a new personal-best distance of 23-6 ¾. Shurtliff competed in the high jump at the 2017 Southern Region Championships and placed second with a height of 6-4. During that same event he placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 22-9 ¾.
