Football Takes Part in ACCO Event in Spokane

Several Eastern football players were a part of the "Light the Way Dinner Auction" on April 27 in Spokane. The event helped raise funds locally for the American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest. The organization's unique mission is to help each family cope with life during childhood cancer treatments and rebuild their lives after cancer from the experienced perspective of those who have been there before. Donations enhance the lives of children with cancer and their families, and provide emotional and practical support, education, patient advocacy, and the assurance that no child or family will have to fight cancer alone.
Teams Participate in Cheney Clean-Sweep
Several Eastern teams, including men's basketball, women's basketball, soccer and football, participated in the annual Cheney Clean-Sweep in April.
This is a positive community event that encourages civic pride for the city and its neighborhoods. Teams collected trash around the EWU campus and the city of Cheney, even causing one long-time resident and Eastern employee to remark that the "campus has never been cleaner!"
Eastern Athletics Continues Partnership in 2018 with HUB 360 Program
Eastern Washington University student-athletes from several sports teams have continued to mentor young people at The HUB Sports Center as part of the HUB 360 afterschool program which targets "at-risk" middle school youth. The HUB is a nonprofit, community-based organization in Liberty Lake, Wash., and began its partnership with the EWU Athletic Department last fall.
Jim Fitzgerald, Eastern's assistant athletic director for student success, coordinates EWU's involvement in the program with Phil Champlin, the executive director at the HUB.
Student-athletes from EWU's various athletics teams adopt a day to come and join the HUB 360 staff and help mentor the middle school students. Eastern's soccer and golf programs were at the HUB in January, followed by volleyball in February and women's basketball in April. The EWU track and field, tennis and cross country programs have previously helped.
