Prior to Eastern Washington:
Burnham is the fifth head coach in the history of the EWU men’s tennis program and he brings a wealth of head coaching knowledge to the Eagles. No stranger to the Big Sky Conference, Burnham spent a combined 15 years as a head coach at Montana State and Weber State.
“I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to be the men’s head tennis coach at Eastern Washington University,” said Burnham. “I want to thank Lynn Hickey and the search committee for trusting me with the program. I am eager to start working with the student athletes and I am excited for my family and I to become a part of the Eagle family.”
Burnham took over at the helm at Montana State in June 2012 and recorded a Big Sky Conference record of 46-27 (.630) over the course of seven seasons. In 2013, Burnham was named Big Sky Coach of the Year after leading the Bobcats to a regular season championship.
Burnham also served as the Director of the Bobcat Anderson Tennis Center for MSU. There, he coordinated tournaments and oversaw maintenance of the facility along with developing annual budgets.
Prior to his tenure at Montana State, Burnham spent eight seasons at Weber State University where he produced a conference record of 20-11 (.645) during his last four seasons at the helm. At WSU, he coached the 2012 Big Sky Conference Player or the Year, Simon Unger, and coached a nationally-ranked (No. 43) doubles team in 2012 as well.
From August 2000 to May 2003, Burnham served as the assistant women’s tennis coach at Boise State. During his tenure, he was named the 2002 ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. He also saw the Broncos win the 2001 Big West Conference Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Burnham moved on to coach the Boise State men’s team from March 2003 to May 2004. He was named the 2004 ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year and helped coach the Broncos to a 2003 WAC Conference Championship as Boise State went on to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament that season.
A graduate of Utah State University in May of 2000, Burnham served as the Aggie assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach from Aug. 1999 to April 2000.
He was a three-year captain and a three-time MVP for the Aggies and earned All-Big West Conference honors in 1999.
