2024: The top quarter-miler for the Dawgs indoors, helping UW set an American Indoor Record in the distance medley relay, and earning All-America honors in that event for the second year in a row … set a new PR, indoor or outdoor, at the Ken Shannon Last Chance meet in the Dempsey, running 46.98 for 400-meters, going to No. 7 in school history indoors with the fastest time in six years … ran the 400m leg on the DMR at the Arkansas Qualifier where UW ran 9:18.81 to set the American Indoor Record … ran the 400m leg on the DMR at the NCAA Indoor Championships where the group finished ninth for Second Team All-America … won the 400-meters at the Spokane Invitational (47.76), the UW Preview (47.46), and the UW Invitational (47.21) … part of the top 4x400m relay of the season going 3:10.27 to win the Husky Classic … outdoors, limited to just one race due to injury … named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team as well as the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll.
2023: Raced at the Pac-12 Championships on both relays to cap his outdoor season, taking 10th on the 4x100m relay in 44.22 and 8th on the 4x400m in 3:14.87 ... a 200m time of 21.50 at the Desert Heat Classic on Apr. 29 ... clocked a 47.98 in his outdoor opener at the Mt. SAC Relays ... indoors, earned First Team All-America honors on the DMR, running the 400m leg to help UW finish fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships as the overall team also finished a program-best fourth ... ran the 400-meter leg on the Husky distance medley relay that clocked the No. 2 time in NCAA and World Indoor history, going 9:16.65 at the Arkansas Qualifier, where he split 46.37 … ran a 400m season-best of 47.50, converted to 47.61 for altitude, at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, taking the victory … also at New Mexico, ran on the 4x400m relay that ran 3:07.19, converted to 3:07.63, the fastest 4x4 by the Huskies in 17 years and third in school history … second at the Husky Classic 400m in 47.67 ... earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status.
At EWU
2021-22 Track & Field: Qualified fourth overall to the Big Sky Championships final in the 400-meters, but did not run the final … ran on Big Sky runner-up 4x100m relay that ran 40.47 … a 200-meters PR of 21.46 at the Steve Scott Invitational … second in the 400m at the Hayward Premiere in 47.24 … indoors, was fifth in the 400m at the Big Sky Indoors in 48.97 … a time of 47.40 to win the 400m at the Idaho Team Challenge … went 21.48 to win the 200m at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open.
2020-21 Track & Field: Outdoor: Named to the Big Sky All-Academic team. The true freshman advanced to the Big Sky Conference Championships where he earned an All-Big Sky honor, after advancing past the preliminary round of the 400 meters to place third overall. He ran a personal best of 47.00, moving him to the No. 2 spot on Eastern’s all-time top-10 list. He ran the second leg of the victorious 4x100 relay team, which won with a time of 40.75 to earn All-Big Sky honors and score 10 points for the Eagles. Additionally, the team made Eastern’s all-time top-10 list by claiming the No. 3 spot. He also ran on the 4x400 relay, where the team placed third overall (3:15.12) to earn All-Big Sky honors and score six points for the team. Prior to the championships, Gaik ran a career best in the 100 meters (10.76) at the Al Manuel Invitational, and a best in the 200 meters (21.84) at the Oregon State PNW Team Clash.
High School: Graduated from Kentwood HS in 2020. He placed second in the 400 at the State 4A Championships as a junior in 2019, finishing with a personal-record time of 49.03. He also placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 22.57 in the finals after registering the top time in the preliminaries with a 22.35 clocking. A week earlier he had a personal record of 22.10 in the 200 to finish third at the WCD/SWD District Championships. Earlier in the season, he had a PR in the 100 of 10.84. He also advanced to State in the 400 as a sophomore in 2018, placing eighth with a time of 51.35 after registering the second-fastest time in prelims of 49.87. His first experience at the State Championships came as a freshman in 2017 when he ran a leg on the school’s 4x400 relay team, which had a time of 3:26.65 in the prelims to miss a spot in the finals by one place. Lettered four times in track and field and was coached in high school by Robert Thomas.
