2012-13: Indoor:Monterola cleared three heights in the pole vault during the indoorseason, with her best mark of 12-10 1/4 coming at the UW HuskyClassic. She was unable to defend her indoor title in the vault atthe BSC Indoor Championships as she no-heighted. Monterola alsocompeted in the long jump as she hit her longest mark of 17-4 3/4at the Montana State Open. Outdoor: She defended her titlein the pole vault at the BSC Outdoor Championships, clearing thebar at 13-3 1/2. She went on to compete at the NCAA WestPreliminary Rounds, but failed to clear a height.
2011-12: Indoor:Monterola exploded onto the Big Sky scene, breaking the Easternschool record and Big Sky Conference indoor record in the polevault with a jump of 14-4 at the UW Invitational. That markautomatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships, where sheplaced fifth overall with a mark of 14-1 1/4, good for All-Americahonors. She won the Big Sky title in the pole vault with an effortof 14-2, winning by over a foot and earning her the women’sMost Outstanding Athlete of the Meet award at the BSCChampionships. Monterola also competed in the long jump at theIndoor Championships, placing fourth overall with a jump of 18-3 torank ninth all-time at Eastern. Prior to the NCAA Championships,she had won the pole vault at all eight meets she attended duringthe indoor season. She was named the Big Sky Women’s FieldAthlete of the Week three separate times in the 2011-12 indoorseason. Outdoor: Monterola won the pole vault at the BSCOutdoor Championships with a jump of 13-7 1/4. Her season-best of14-0 came at the Pelluer Invite, breaking the school record by overnine inches. That performance earned Monterola Big SkyWomen’s Field Athlete of the Week honors. She finished 11that the NCAA D1 West Preliminary Round, earning a bid to the NCAANational Championships. Prior to Nationals, an unfortunate familyemergency caused Monterola to withdraw from the meet. She wasunable to meet the Olympic B standard of 14-5 1/4 prior to theLondon Olympic Games.
Clackamas CC: Monterola placed first in thepole vault at the Northwest Athletic Association of CommunityColleges (NWAACC) Championships while competing for ClackamasCommunity College. She had a personal-best vault of 14-2 1/2– a mark that improved her Venezuelan national record. Shealso placed first in the long jump with a mark of 18-0 1/2.Monterola also claimed titles at the 2009 NWAACC Championships inthe pole vault (12-8 1/4) and the long jump (17-8 1/4).
National Career: While utilizing her redshirtseason in 2010, Monterola won the gold medal at the Central Americaand Caribbean Games, where she set the games record with a mark of13-9 1/4. In high school, Monterola was the 2005 IAAF World Youthsilver medalist and South American Junior Champion. She cleared13-11 1/4 in both competitions, setting new meet records in both.Monterola is also the owner of the Venezuela national record. Shehas competed for her country on numerous occasions, including thePan American Games in the fall of 2012. She placed fifth with amark of 14-1 1/4.
