Bryce Currie was hired in June of 2014 by head coach Wendy Schuller. The Spokane native and Ferris High School graduate brought 12 seasons of experience as a coach and staff member across various levels of women’s basketball, ranging from middle school to Division I. In May of 2020, Currie was promoted to Associate Coach. The start of the 2020-21 season begins his seventh year on staff at Eastern Washington.
In his first season at EWU, Currie helped guide the Eagles to the winningest season in school history, which included the program’s first ever post-season win, a victory over Washington State University in the WNIT. In 2017, the Eagles advanced to the second-round of the WBI for the first time in program history.
Since 2014, Currie has assisted in coaching one Big Sky Freshman of the Year in Delaney Hodgins, five All-Big Sky First-Team members, five Second-Team selections and seven Honorable Mentions in addition to the 2018-19 Big Sky Top-Reserve of the Year.
Additionally, Eastern’s all-time scoring record has been broken twice during Currie’s tenure and the Eagles have posted an overall record of 94-98 including a 61-51 mark in Big Sky play. The Eagles have earned at least a No. 4 seed for the conference championships and finished with a winning record in four out of his six complete seasons.
Currie assists in an array of duties including recruiting, opponent scouting and game-planning, post player development, community relations, and summer camps.
He spent the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at Florida Southern, coordinating the team's academic program while managing the booster club and working with opponent scouting, post player development and strength and conditioning.
Prior to his stay in Lakeland, Florida, Currie was a graduate assistant coach at Nebraska from 2010-12, assisting with recruiting while serving as the director of the program's individual and team camps. His first coaching stint came in Tempe, Arizona, where he spent two seasons with Arizona State's women's program as a graduate assistant. His duties included the coordination of fundraising and promotions as well as social media.
Currie earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Washington in 2008 while working as a women’s basketball team manager, then went on to earn a master's in higher education from Arizona State in 2010. He received his second master's degree, this time in educational administration, from Nebraska in 2012.
Currie and his wife, Amanda, reside in Cheney.
