Kamira Sanders is in her second season as a graduate assistant at Eastern Washington after finishing a storied playing career at Seattle University.
In her second season as a graduate assistant, Sanders contributed to a season of transition. We saw significant contributions from Senior Alexis Pettis, including ranking third on the team in points (289) and second in steals (45).
During her first season as a graduate assistant, the Eagles recorded 29 wins, the best mark in program history, improving from the previous season by 10 wins for the second season in a row.
Kamira played at Seattle from 2016 to 2020 and left her mark on the program. In the 2019-20 season, Kamira was the WAC Defensive Player of the Year along with earning First Team All-WAC honors. Kamira was second in the league in overall scoring average, while leading during the conference schedule. Kamira was the 2017-18 WAC Tournament MVP after leading the Redhawks to the tournament title. She earned WAC Freshman of the Year in 2016-17
With 1435 points scored during four seasons, Kamira is eight on the program's all-time scoring lists. She ranks third in steals with 232 total and fifth in made free throws with 326. Kamira is seventh in Redhawks history for assists (337), free throw attempts (474) and field goal attempts (1230), while being eighth in made field goals (513). During her career, Kamira played and started in all 117 of the team's games over four years.Â
Since graduating, Kamira worked as a coach for AAU basketball in Redding, Calif. She coached boys and girls teams - fourth and 11th grade - at camps. Kamira has also worked with Nike Basketball and USA Women to organize their camps.Â
