Stephen Kindell joins the Eastern Washington University men’s and women’s track and field coaching staff as an assistant coach, working with the jumps and multis groups. Kindell brings valuable head coaching experience from Loyola University New Orleans and Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis.
During his two seasons at Loyola, Kindell coached all event groups and guided six athletes to NAIA Nationals in his first year, producing an All-American in the women’s long jump along with top finishes in the men’s 400-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay.
Prior to Loyola, Kindell served as head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs at Harris-Stowe State. Under his leadership, the Hornets earned multiple American Midwest Conference titles and All-Conference honors. He also implemented a strength and conditioning program that helped athletes achieve record-breaking performances and conference championships.
Before entering collegiate coaching, Kindell worked in the NAIA National Office as the International Eligibility Coordinator, managing compliance for international student-athletes. During that time, he also coached track and field and basketball at Blue Valley Northwest High School, developing several state qualifiers through his strength and conditioning training.
A Kansas City native, Kindell earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), where he competed as a long jumper and triple jumper. He qualified for Nationals as a freshman, placing 12th in the triple jump and earning All-Conference honors. He was inducted into the UMKC Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2016.
Kindell is a certified multi-sport strength coach and owner of Sun Tribe Fitness, providing private training for athletes of all ages. He holds certifications from USATF (Level I with distinctions in jumps, sprints, and hurdles), USTFCCCA, and ISSA in strength and conditioning.
Coach Kindell and his wife are the proud parents of two boys.
