MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Eastern Washington University volleyball team got a career-best 22 kills from redshirt sophomore Taylor Larsen to help the Eagles collect a thrilling 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-7) victory at Idaho on Saturday, Oct. 15, night.
Tonight's effort continues a recent string of solid play for Larsen, as the Colfax, Washington native recorded the first 20-kill match for any Eagle on the year, surpassing freshman Katie Mahoney's 19-kill effort against Eastern Kentucky. The redshirt sophomore also hit .333 in the match to help Eastern post a .189 attack percentage on the night in a winning effort.
It would be a back-and-forth battle all night between the two Big Sky rivals, as Eastern pulled out victories in every odd set, while the Vandals were victorious in both even sets. That would not be the case however in the fifth, and final, set of the night, as the Eagles posted a .450 hitting percentage in the frame to cruise to a 15-7 set win to complete the victory.
"I thought we never gave up, and that's what I'm most proud of tonight," said head coach Michael King. "Our girls kept chopping wood, kept plugging away and doing the right things all night. It was a battle. It's never an easy task playing at Idaho, and we never stopped battling. Idaho made us earn the win tonight. I thought Taylor did an excellent job for us tonight, and Chloe (Weber) did just as well. Ashley (Seiler) also played with a lot of maturity tonight. I'm just really, really pleased with how we performed."
