On Friday, Sept. 30 they tied Portland State 0-0, then defeated Sacramento State 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Heading into Sunday's matchup, Eastern will look to hold onto its first place standing in the BSC and its current two-game win streak against the rival Wildcats.
All-Time Series
Although history is in the favor of the Weber State at a 13-7 record against the Eagles, recent matchups have gone the other way. EWU has won the last two games against WSU, as it has not lost since head coach
Chad Bodnar took over. Eastern defeated Weber State last year on Sept. 25, with a score of 2-1 on the road.
Last Time Out
Through 80 minutes of play against Sacramento State, the match was starting to look like a repeat of the Portland State match just two days earlier. Both teams were struggling to penetrate the opposing defense. But a glimmer of hope rose in the form of a free kick for sophomore
Allison Raniere in the 86th minute. She sent the pass inside the six-yard box, giving
Kiana Hafferty the opportunity to corral the loose ball and chest in the goal.
The Eagles were able to clamp down on the CSUS offense for the remaining minutes and take the 1-0 win on the road.
Shutout
After playing some of its best defense last weekend, EWU added two more shutouts to its season total, increasing it to five. Eastern has now kept its opponents without a goal in three of its last four matches, and currently holds a 214 minute scoreless streak.
Tough to Beat
The experienced defensive unit of the Eagles is first in the Big Sky in goals allowed at .92, while the offense that supports them is the best in the league. They rank first in both goals per game at 1.92 and points per game with 5.42.
Big Sky Leaders
Despite being held without a point in the last two games, junior
Chloe Williams is still leading the conference in points (15), goals (7), and shots (46). Williams is also tied first in game-winning goals with four.
Junior Aimee Inthoulay's nine assists is still tied for first in the nation, and her mark holds a commanding five assist lead over the next best player in the Big Sky.
Knowing Your Opponent: Weber State
Weber State has a 5-5-1 record this season and is 3-1 in the Big Sky. WSU is currently on a three game winning streak after going 2-0 last weekend, defeating Northern Arizona 3-1 and Southern Utah 2-1. Last year, the Wildcats finished 10-9-1 and 6-4 in league play, eventually losing to Montana 0-2 in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Championships. Head coach Tim Crompton is in his 13th year with the program and holds a 99-119-26 record.
This Wildcats team is returning five starters from last season with sophomore Morgan Quarnberg leading the team in scoring. She has nine points on three goals and three assists, leading the team in each category.
