@EWUWBB Returns Home This Week Against Cal State Fullerton and Gonzaga

The Eagles will be playing at home for just the second and third time this season, as they host the Titans on Thursday and Bulldogs on Sunday.

CHENEY, Wash. -- The Eastern Washington University women's basketball team returns to Reese Court this week for a pair of contests against Cal State Fullerton and regional rival Gonzaga (RV). The Eagles tip-off against the Titans this Thursday (Dec. 8) at 11:05 a.m. PT before taking on the Bulldogs at 2:05 p.m. PT on Sunday (Dec. 11).

Reese Court will be a sight for sore eyes for the Eagles, as they've played six of their first seven games away from home this season. Eastern won its lone home contest by 53 points against NAIA Multnomah University back on Nov. 27.

EWU is coming off an even split on its most recent two-game road trip, as they fell at undefeated Boise State, 67-64, before picking up a 71-57 win at Cal State Northridge. Eastern returns to Reese looking to continue its strong play of late, as they have won four of its last five games to pull to a game above the .500-mark at 4-3.

Thursday's contest against Cal State Fullerton will be Kids Day at Reese Court, as several elementary school kids from around the Cheney-Spokane area will be in attendance as a part of the promotion.

Sunday's contest against Gonzaga will be broadcast live throughout the area on SWX. Pregame on SWX will start at 2 p.m. PT, while the game will tip-off at 2:05 p.m. PT.

Last Time Out
The Eastern Washington had four players score in double-figures on Saturday (Dec. 3) night to help the Eagles post a 71-57 road win against former Big Sky Conference foe, Cal State Northridge.

Junior Delaney Hodgins poured in a game-high 23 points to lead the quartet of double-digit scorers. The forward went 8-of-14 from the field and hit all three of her 3-point attempts to post her fourth-straight game with 20-plus points. The Pasco, Washington native was just one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season, as she finished with a game-high nine.

Sophomore Violet Kapri Morrow and senior Ashli Payne each tallied 12 points on the night, while redshirt senior Tisha Phillips tallied 10 points.

Back-to-Back Big Sky Player of the Week honors for Hodgins
On Tuesday (Dec. 6), junior Delaney Hodgins was named the Co-Big Sky Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals per contest in two road contest. Hodgins scored 21 points in the loss at Boise State, while she picked up 23 points in the victory at Cal State Northridge.

Hodgins was also named the College Sports Madness Big Sky Player of the Week two weeks ago after shooting a combined 81.4 percent (22-of-27) from the field in a pair of wins at Utah Valley and against Multnomah University.

Eags Soaring in The RPI
On Wednesday (Dec. 7) the NCAA opened its daily Rating Percentage Index (RPI) and Eastern Washington claimed the top RPI slot in the Big Sky Conference at 62. The Eagles were the lone Big Sky team to rank inside the Top 75, while they were one of three teams from the conference placed inside the Top 100, as Montana State (83) and Northern Colorado (92) were both represented.

The Eagles also post an RPI of 61 according to RealTimeRPI.com, a ratings index that also updates daily. According to RealTimeRPI, EWU has played the 50th-toughest schedule in all of NCAA Division I up to this point of the season.

Hodgins Efficiency
Junior Delaney Hodgins has been on quite the offensive tear since last season, as she has scored 10-or-more points in each of her last 24 contests for Eastern Washington. The streak started back on Jan. 14, 2016 with a 21-point outing at Southern Utah and was extended this past Saturday with a 23-point effort at Cal State Northridge.

Hodgins has averaged 17.3 points during the streak, and has scored 20-or-more points seven times. Coming into this week, Hodgins has scored 20-or-more points in four-straight contests.

Getting into a Groove
The Eastern Washington offense has begun to gel, as they've scored 70-or-more points in three of its past four contests. The Eagles have also shot 50 percent-or-better in three of their last four games, which included a 55.8 field goal percentage last Saturday's victory at Cal State Northridge.

Knowing Your Opponent: Cal State Fullerton
The Titans enter this week at 2-5 on the year after dropping a 77-62 decision at home against Loyola Marymount. CSUF is 0-3 this season in true road games and brings an RPI of 339 to Cheney on Thursday.

Junior Iman Lathan leads the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game. Despite not starting since Nov. 20, the guard has scored 20-plus points in each of her last three contests. In fact, Lathan has scored 20-or-more points in five games this season. As a team, Fullerton is averaging 64.4 points per game and is shooting 39.1 percent from the field.

On the defensive end the Titans are allowing an even 73 points per contests, while the opposition is shooting 41.6 percent against them. They are also forcing 14.4 turnovers per game, while they average one block per game as a team.

Knowing Your Opponent: Gonzaga
The Bulldogs enter this week at 5-2 and are receiving votes in both the Associate Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25. GU is receiving eight votes in the AP Poll and one vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Gonzaga has won two-straight contests against Winthrop (71-41) and Presbyterian (79-39). The Zags have an RPI of 117 coming into this week and will host Washington State this Thursday before taking on the Eagles on Sunday.

Gonzaga is averaging 76.1 points per game on a 45.9 shooting percentage. Redshirt sophomore Jill Barta leads the team in scoring at 19.3 points per game. The guard is shooting a blistering 61.8 percent from the field, as she has hit 47 of her 76 field goal attempts this season.

Defensively, the Bulldogs are giving up 56 points per game. They are also limiting teams to a 35.1 shooting percentage. Gonzaga has held its opposition to under 50 points in five of its eight games this season.
