Cheney, Wash. - Following one of its best performances of the season, the Eastern Washington University women's golf team heads to Boulder City, Nev., this coming week for the 2016 Big Sky Conference Championship.
The tournament will be hosted at the 6,285-yard, par-72 Boulder Creek Golf Course. All 12 Big Sky teams will participate over the three-day event from Monday, April 18 through Wednesday, April 20. One practice round will be held the day before on Sunday, April 17, followed by one 18-hole round played on each consecutive day. Boulder Creek has three nine-hole courses, with the championship being played on the Desert Hawk and Coyote Run courses.
Last week, Eastern put together its best team score of the season at the Bobcat Invitational on Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12. EWU finished sixth in the 17-team field, while shooting 918 (307-304-307).
Senior Marissa Borja ended the regular season with her strongest performance of the year, finishing in a tie for third place in the 98-person field. Over three rounds she scored 221 (76-73-72) and shot even in the third round, her top mark on the year. Sophomore Kimberlie Miyamoto shot 232 (82-75-75) and placed 22nd, while freshman Kirsten Ishikawa scored 235 (74-79-82), finishing in a tie for 31st.
The Eagles are led this season by Borja, who averages 77.60 strokes per round through nine tournaments and has tallied two top-25 finishes and a top-five finish. She has excelled in the third round of tournaments, averaging 76.43 strokes. Close behind her is Ishikawa, averaging 78 strokes, with a consistent performance across all rounds.
