Second Half of Big Sky Play Underway for Eastern Washington Volleyball

EWU is looking to snap a five-match losing streak at Weber State and against Idaho

EAGLE LEADERS: Eastern Washington is 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the Big Sky Conference. They have league wins over Montana (3-1), Montana State (3-2) and Northern Arizona (3-0). The Eagles are currently on a five-match losing streak.
 
Ashley Seiler leads Eastern with 286 kills, good for 4.03 a set, which is tied for first in the Big Sky and 47th in the nation. Regan Harr has dished out a total of 497 assists (6.54/set) and leads the team with 19 service aces. Defensively, Megan LaFond has totaled 331 digs. The senior's 4.36 digs per set ranks sixth in the Big Sky and 114th t in the nation. Freshman Jayde Robertsen leads the team with 45 total blocks.

As a team, Eastern is hitting .151 while allowing their opponents to hit .223. They average 16.5 digs/set which ranks third in the conference and 51st across Division I. The Eagles also average 12.4 kills per set as a team. Their 32.32 attacks per set is 31st in the nation.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: The Wildcats are 5-17 overall and are 3-7 in conference play. They have league wins over Southern Utah (3-0), Northern Arizona (3-0) and most recently Northern Colorado (3-1).

As a team, Weber State is hitting .190 while allowing their opponents to hit .238. The Wildcats rank second in the Big Sky in blocks, as they have 216.5 on the year which is 28th in the nation. Additionally, their 2.64 blocks per set is 31st amongst Division I.

Individually, Amanda Varley averages 3.50 kills/set to lead the team. Ashlyn Power and Hannah Hill rank fifth in the Big Sky in assists (9.65) and blocks (1.22) per set, respectively.

SERIES HISTORY: The Eagles have the 43-40 edge in the all-time series. Eastern has also won the last five meetings between the two teams, and have taken eight out of the last ten. In Ogden, EWU is only 13-19 all-time. Under head coach Michael King, the Eagles are 3-0. Last season, Eastern Washington beat the Wildcats in five sets after rallying from a 2-1 deficit.

SCOUTING THE VANDALS: The Vandals are 12-9 on the year with a 7-3 mark in conference play. Since topping Eastern Washington 3-1 on Oct. 14, Idaho was swept by both Portland State and Sacramento State.

Idaho leads the BSC in hitting percentage with a .262 clip and allow their opponents to hit .208. As a team they rank in the top five in assists (12.11), kills (13.01), blocks (2.62) and services aces per set (1.29).

Kaela Straw paces the Vandals with 3.64 kills per set, which is fourth in the Big Sky. The last time the two teams faced off, EWU limited her to just nine kills in four sets. Torrin Crawford hit .444 against the Eagles with 10 kills, and her .350 hitting percentage ranks fifth amongst the Big Sky. In addition, Crawford ranks fourth in the conference with 1.28 blocks/per set, and she had five against Eastern two weeks ago.

SERIES HISTORY: Eastern Washington trails the all-time series 20-34 and are only 10-14 at home against the Vandals. EWU has lost the last two meetings, including a 3-1 loss this season on Oct. 14. In the loss, the Eagles came out and took set one and only fell in set four by two points. MaKenna Davis collected her first career double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.

NEXT TIME UP: The match against Idaho kicks off the three final home games for the Eagles. On Nov. 2 and 3, Eastern Washington welcomes North Dakota and Northern Colorado to town. Against Northern Colorado, EWU will recognize Ashley Seiler, Megan LaFond and Chloe Weber for Senior Day.
