CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University volleyball team welcomed the North Dakota Fighting Hawks to town on Thursday evening (Nov. 2), where they suffered a 3-0 loss to the first-place team in the Big Sky Conference North Division.
Regan Harr worked to get EWU off to a good start in the first set, collecting a service ace for the first point. UND then went on a 7-0 run to lead 7-1. It was all North Dakota after that, as they hit at a .368 clip and held Eastern to just .023. The Fighting Hawks claimed the opening set 25-13.
Eastern Washington kept it close in the second set, trailing only 11-8. However, UND would use a 6-0 run to jump ahead 17-8.
Megan LaFond and
Ashley Seiler would tally back-to-back kills later in the set, but it wasn't enough to catch the Fighting Hawks who took set two 25-16.
Down 14-7 in the first set, LaFond and Leanna Shymanski would earn back-to-back kills to try and keep Eastern in the match. However, leading 18-12, UND fired off the final seven points behind the serve of Sydney Griffin and won 25-12, taking the match 3-0.
WIN-LOSS RECORDS: With the victory, the Fighting Hawks garner their 25th win of the year, moving to 25-5 overall and 10-3 in conference play. The Eagles drop their eighth straight to fall to 6-16 and 3-10 overall. This is also the fifth straight match they have lost to North Dakota as the series moves to 1-11 overall.
TOP PERFORMERS: Ashley Seiler led all players with 12 kills. She has now led the team in kills in 19 matches and has double-digit kills in 18 of those. Regan Harr collected her 12th double-double and 20th of her career as she led the team with 14 digs and 17 assists. She also collected one ace.
Chloe Weber led the team with two blocks.
KEY STATS: North Dakota was able to outperform EWU in almost every category. They compiled 46 kills and only had eight errors for an efficiency of .339. Eastern totaled 27 kills and had 23 errors for a .032 clip over three sets.
