CHENEY, Wash -- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team completed a perfect weekend of tennis with defeating San Diego Christian 5-2 on March 4.This win comes off of a win over Lewis-Clark State the night prior, on March 3.
 
This was the first time Eastern has faced San Diego Christian. Prior to facing EWU, SDC was undefeated at 4-0. The Eagles advance to 3-8 overall record.
 
"I am happy with how the team competed this weekend," head coach 
Dustin Hinson said. "We knew we were going to be facing two talented top 25 nationally ranked NAIA teams. We approached each match like we have all season and focused on controlling what we could control and expecting a huge battle."
 
The Eagles won the doubles for now four matches in a row.
 
Sophomore 
Faye Worrall fell to her opponent in the No. 1 singles spot with a battle of a match. She lost 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Senior 
Carolina Lopez was the one other Eagle that lost in the match by scores of 6-2 in both of her sets.
 
Senior 
Erin Blessing had a pretty dominate match over her opponent 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. Junior 
Rachel Swindell defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles spot. Both freshman 
Marta Heinen and 
Valentina Sottile went to three sets and were able to come out on top.
 
In doubles, junior 
Janaya Smith and Worrall teamed up for the No. 1 spot and fell 6-3. Blessing and Swindell were in the No. 2 spot and won 6-2. Domingo and Sottile finished off singles and won at 6-1.
 
"We need these kind of tough matches because it shows how we can come through in pressure situation," Hinson said. "We are looking forward to taking a lot of positives from this weekend into our upcoming conference matches."
 
The Eagles will continue competition on March 8 in Cheney against Big Sky's Idaho. Matches will begin at 6 p.m. in the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse.
