Eagles Fall to Weber State 1-0 at Home

EWU is back in action Sunday, Oct. 14 at 12 p.m. for Senior Day

CHENEY, Wash.—The Eastern Washington University soccer team hosted Weber State today (Oct. 12) and dropped the contest 1-0.

"For large portions of the game I thought we controlled the play and did everything we had to do. We made one mistake in the first half from a cross and it changed the game," said head coach Chad Bodnar. "We worked hard, played well and created a lot of chances. We just couldn't finish."

The Wildcats took the first shot of the game from Megan Price but the ball hit the crossbar. Taylor Matheny took the Eagles' first shot of the half but the ball sailed wide.

Another shot from Price came in the 11th minute of play but EWU's goalkeeper Kelsee Winston was there for the save, her first of the match.

Jenny Chavez attempted a header in the 23rd minute of play for EWU but the ball was saved by WSU's goalie Nikki Pittman.

In the 41st minute of play Weber State scored their lone goal of the match from Taylor Scadlock with the assist from Olivia Glassford. Glassford crossed the ball to Scadlock who sent the ball right past goalkeeper Winston.

After many attempts in the first half for an Eastern goal, the score remained 1-0 after 45 minutes of play, sending both teams to their respective locker rooms. At halftime, EWU outshot WSU seven to five. Both teams took one corner kick and each goalie had one save.

Returning from halftime Winston recorded another save when WSU's Mylee Broad took a shot in the 50th minute of play.

In the 65th minute senior Allison Raniere took a corner kick for the Eagles where she was able to find Glory Smith for a shot but the ball sailed high.

Numerous Eagles took shots in the second half but unfortunately no goal was recorded and the game ended after 90 minutes of total play with the score remaining at 1-0.

The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 19-7 with seven shots on goal and three corner kicks but it wasn't enough for EWU to secure a victory.

Bodnar Bites:
On Individual Performances: "I thought Colby Wilson, Maia Inniss and Janae Lee were solid all day in the back. We switched to three in the back so we could try and get momentum going forward. They were under pressure and they handled it well and I thought they did well today."

On Facing Idaho State on Sunday: "We have to finish in front of the goal. We're still in it with three regular season matches left and we need to get healthy, get a win on Sunday and get some momentum going in to next week."

Win-Loss Record
The Eagles are now 5-7-3 overall and 1-4-1 in Big Sky Conference play, where the Wildcats are now 8-3-4 overall and 6-0-1 in conference.

Keys to the Game
EWU's Raniere led the team in total shots taken with seven, three of which were shots on goal followed by Jenny Chavez who took three and two of them were shots on goal.

Notables
Kelsee Winston recorded 90 minutes in the net for the Eagles and had three saves on the match.
