Eagles Take the Road for Final Regular Season Matches

EWU looks to clinch one of the final two spots in the Big Sky Championship Tournament

CHENEY, Wash.—The Eastern Washington women's soccer team heads out for its final two road matches this week as they take on Northern Arizona (Oct. 19) at 7 p.m. Pacific time and Southern Utah (Oct. 21) at 12 p.m. PT.

LAST TIME OUT:
EWU played Weber State Friday, Oct. 12 to a loss of 1-0 at the EWU Soccer Field. The Eagles were unable to connect for a goal resulting in a Wildcat victory.

Following their Weber State game, the Eagles played Sunday, Oct. 14 as they hosted Idaho State for Senior Day. Eastern came out on top with a victory over the Bengals 8-1.

Seniors Devan Talley, Allison Raniere and Jenny Chavez all scored a goal for the Eagles on their respective Senior Day. Megan Drake scored her first and second career goals in the match against the Bengals, along with sophomores

Emma Vanderhyden and Sariah Keister. Junior Saige Lyons also contributed a goal which allowed EWU to reign victors over ISU, 8-1.

Sunday's game set a program record in goals scored in a single match with eight. The eight goals also marked the most ever scored by any team in a Big Sky Conference match and the fifth-overall in conference history.

GETTING TO KNOW THE EAGLES:
The Eagles are ranked sixth in the Big Sky Conference with an overall record of 6-7-3 and 2-4-1 in Big Sky play.

Eastern leads the conference in total shots taken on the season with 259 and the Eagles also lead in total number of corner kicks taken with 102. EWU is ranked second overall in total goals scored with 20 following Northern Colorado who has 30.

Raniere leads the conference in total shots taken with 53. She is tied for fourth in total number of assists with four in Big Sky play along with being tied for 10th in total points with 16. Raniere leads the Eagles in total points on the year with eight, as well as also leading her team in total assists with four.

EWU's goalkeeper Kelsee Winston is ranked seventh in the Big Sky in saves with 58 as well as being ranked fifth in total shutouts on the year with 5.

Chavez leads the Eagles with three goals on the year and has recorded seven total points in the 2018-19 season.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: NORTHERN ARIZONA
Northern Arizona is led by head coach Andre Luciano who is in his 17th season as head coach. The Lumberjacks are ranked second in the Big Sky Conference with an overall record of 9-3-3 and 5-0-2 in conference play. NAU has already clinched their spot in the Big Sky Tournament which will be held on Oct. 31- Nov. 4.

NAU returns sophomores Kayla Terhune and Paige Maling who both lead the team in most goals scored on the year along with freshman Ana Rivera who each have three.

Rivera has eight total points on the year with eight shots, all of which were shots on goal. Maling has seven total points on the year and has taken 13 total shots with seven shots on goal. Terhune has recorded seven total points during the 2018-19 season with 11 total shots and one assist.

SERIES HISTORY:
EWU and NAU have an overall record of 7-13-2 and a 3-2-1 record since EWU's head coach Chad Bodnar has been at the helm. Last time EWU played NAU was at home on Sept. 24, 2017 where the Eagles beat the Lumberjacks 4-0.

KNOWING YOUR OPPONENT: SOUTHERN UTAH
Southern Utah is led by head coach Fred Thompson who is in his second year as head coach of the Thunderbirds. SUU is ranked ninth in the Big Sky with an overall record of 2-13-1 and 1-5-1 in conference play.

SUU returns senior forward Makenzie Lawrence who leads the team in goals with seven on the season. Lawrence has recorded 14 total points and has taken 24 shots during the 2018-19 season.

The Thunderbirds also return senior Devri Hartle who has recorded five goals, three assists and 13 total points for SUU this season.

SERIES HISTORY:
EWU and SUU have an overall record of 4-2-1 and a 2-1-1 record since EWU's head coach Chad Bodnar has been at the helm. Last time EWU played SUU was at home on Oct. 1, 2017 where the Eagles beat the Thunderbirds 4-0.

UP NEXT:
Following their two road matches at Northern Arizona and Southern Utah the Eagles will await their fate and try to qualify for the Big Sky Conference Tournament which will be held in Ogden, Utah Oct. 31-Nov. 4, 2018.

Four schools have already clinched their spots in Big Sky Conference Tournament including; Weber State, Northern Arizona, Idaho and Northern Colorado. Only the top six teams will play in the tournament. The remaining two spots
have yet to be filled.
