CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University volleyball team played Idaho State to a 3-0 (14-25, 17-25, 16-25) loss tonight (Oct. 26) at home in Reese Court.
Eastern couldn't find much offensive momentum in the first set, as they only garnered eight kills. The Bengals hit .300 with 12 kills and only three errors to take the opening set, 25-14.
In the second set, a kill from
Kahle Elliott sparked a 3-0 run for Eastern to tie the set up, 5-all. The Bengals responded later on with a 6-1 run to lead 16-10. Another 3-0 run from the Eagles that was capped off with an ace from
Grace Nelson put Eastern within three, 17-14. The two sides traded points until Idaho State closed the set on a 4-0 run to take the second set 25-17 heading in to intermission.
In the third set, the Bengals worked to lead 11-3. Trailing 17-7, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run that included two blocks from
Kennedy Kaminsky to come within four, 17-11. A quick 2-0 spurt later on that included a solo block from
Kassandra Thomazin kept Eastern in the match 21-15, but the Bengals used a 4-1 run to take the third set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
WIN-LOSS RECORDS: Eastern falls to 8-16 overall and 0-12 in Big Sky play while Idaho State improves to 13-12 overall and 7-5 in conference play. The Bengals have now won nine straight over the Eagles.
TOP PERFORMANCES: For the second-straight match,
Kamille Langford led the team in kills with eight, followed by
Catelyn Linke and
Kennedy Kaminsky who each had five.
Kaminsky also led the team with two service aces. Freshman
Kassandra Thomazin led EWU with four blocks.
Samantha Boever dished out 19 assists and
Puaoolelagi Sao led the way with 17 digs.
KEY STATS: The Eagles were out-blocked 12-to-7 and were held to a negative hitting percentage while the Bengals swung .283. ISU had four service aces to Eastern's three and had 39 kills to EWU's 25.
UP NEXT: Eastern Washington hits the road again for a matchup at Sacramento State on Nov. 1 and at Portland State on Nov. 3.
