Eagles Prep for Final Matches of 2018 Season

Eastern Washington hits the road for a Thursday match at Southern Utah before hosting Northern Arizona on Saturday for Senior Night

CHENEY, Wash. – It's the final week of the 2018 season for the Eastern Washington University volleyball team. The squad will split between a contest at Southern Utah on Thursday (Nov. 15) at 5:30 p.m. PT before playing host to Northern Arizona on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday will also mark Senior Night, as Kahle Elliott, Alexandra Espinosa and Taylor Larsen will be honored prior to the match.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: Eastern Washington is 8-20 overall and 0-16 in Big Sky Conference play. The Eagles were swept by Montana State (16-25, 18-25, 23-25) and Montana (12-25, 22-25, 24-26) last week at home.
 
Offensively, the Eagles are led by Kamille Langford who averages 2.15 kills per set with a .159 attack percentage. She also leads Eastern with .78 blocks per set. MaKenna Davis adds 1.90 kills per set while swinging .148 with 31 service aces on the year.
 
Catelyn Linke has 28 service aces this season and is second on the team with 3.14 digs per set while also contributing with 1.45 kills per set. Puaoolelagi Sao digs 4.00 balls per contest.
 
As a team, the Eagles average 10.75 kills per set and strike at a .146 clip. They also add 15.48 digs, 1.79 blocks, 1.17 aces and 9.84 assists per set.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Three Eagles hit the double-digit kill mark in last Thursday's loss at home against Montana State.
 
Kahle Elliott led the team with a career-high 13 kills, followed by Kamille Langford who had 11 and MaKenna Davis who compiled 10. Davis also led the team with two service aces and Elliott led the way with two blocks. ShaRae Niu paced Eastern's offense with a career-best 29 assists. Catelyn Linke had 20 digs while Puaoolelagi Sao had 12. Davis was two digs shy of a double-double, collecting eight.
 
Eastern hit at a .123 clip with 37 kills on 130 attempts with 21 errors. Montana State was able to hit .284 with 43 kills and only 10 errors on 116 attempts. Eastern had four service aces to MSU's three, but were out-blocked eight to three.
 
Eastern steadily improved in each set against Montana, pushing the third to extra points. MaKenna Davis led the Eagles with 10 kills and a career-high five service aces and a block. She also hit .222 with only four errors on 27 attempts.
 
ShaRae Niu dished out 26 assists while Puaoolelagi Sao had eight digs to lead Eastern. Catelyn Linke added nine kills and seven digs.
In the third set, MaKenna Davis went on a 5-0 scoring run by herself. It began with a kill and then four straight service aces.
 
A LOOK AT SOUTHERN UTAH: The Thunderbirds are 5-23 overall with a 4-12 mark in league play, ranking ninth in the standings. Most recently, Southern Utah fell to NAU in straight sets on Nov. 6 and to Northern Colorado in five sets on Nov. 9.
 
Southern Utah is led by Janet Kalaniuvalu who averages 4.10 kills per set and swings at .191 clip. Alexis Averett paces the offense with 9.22 assists per set and Miranda Canez leads the way at the net with .83 blocks per set. Miahna Waters digs 4.68 balls per set.
 
As a team, the Thunderbirds average 11.6 kills per set with an attack percentage of .184.
 
SERIES HISTORY: The Eagles own a 6-3 all-time advantage over Southern Utah. Last season, the teams met on Oct. 7, 2017 where they fell in four sets. In Cedar City, the Eagles are 3-1.
 
A LOOK AT NORTHERN ARIZONA: Northern Arizona is 21-8 overall with a 13-3 mark in Big Sky play, placing them second in the conference standings. The Lumberjacks have won eight straight, most recently sweeping Southern Utah (Nov. 6) and topping Northern Colorado in five sets on Nov. 10. NAU plays Idaho on Thursday before taking on the Eagles.
 
Kaylie Jorgenson leads the Lumberjacks with 3.06 kills per set with a .211 attack percentage while also adding 4.13 digs per set. Jorgenson also ranks 48th in the nation with 39 service aces along with Abby Akin who averages .37 service aces per set.
 
Akin is 20th in the nation with a hitting percentage of .390 and 77th with 114 total blocks. Jordan Anderson leads the Lumberjacks with 4.68 digs per set.
 
As a team, Northern Arizona averages 12.95 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .248. They rank eighth in the nation with 2,030 digs, averaging 17.96 per set. Additionally, they average 1.55 aces and 2.32 blocks per set.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Eastern leads the all-time series over the Lumberjacks, 37-28. The two teams last met on Oct. 5, 2017 where EWU swept Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. The Eagles have won the last two-straight meetings, but only four out of the last 10. Inside Reese Court, Eastern owns an 18-11 advantage.
 
UP NEXT: This week marks the last matches of the 2018 season as Eastern did not qualify for the Big Sky Conference Tournament next week.
