CHENEY, Wash. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team open up conference competition against Northern Colorado (Mar. 2) and North Dakota (Mar. 4) this weekend. The Eagles are 3-5 overall.
The squad is coming off a weekend in Pullman, Wash., where they faced top players from Minnesota (0-7) and Washington State (0-7). Stephanie Broussard and Rachel Swindell won the lone doubles match 6-2 and Broussard went on to take her singles match to three sets (4-6, 6-1, 3-10) but couldn't pull off the win.
The Eagles have a winning record against North Dakota since the 2015 season with three consecutive wins including last season's 5-2 victory over the Hawks. North Dakota is currently 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference and is coming off a weekend against South Dakota where they lost 3-4 (Feb. 24).
Northern Colorado sits at a 2-4 mark overall and 0-2 in conference. Eastern fell to Northern Colorado last season 2-5 but won in 2016 (4-3). The Bears are coming off a weekend against Idaho where they lost 1-6 but swept the doubles competition.
Following this weekend, the Eagles will host Northern Arizona (Mar. 17) and Idaho State (Mar. 19) at the Jim Thorpe Fieldhouse in Cheney, Wash.
