FULL RESULTS
GREELEY, Colo. – The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team defeated Northern Colorado today (Mar. 2) 7-0 to put them at a 4-5 mark overall and 1-0 in conference.
"This was a really exciting win for the team today," said head coach Dustin Hinson. "They were very hungry to go out and perform well and that's what they did. We displayed a fighting spirit and we did a nice job of finding ways to win points."
The Eagles dominated doubles play winning all three matches to get the point. Janaya Smith and Rylee Braeden competed in the No. 1 spot and came out on top 6-1, followed by Zoey Nelson and Faye Worrall who won 7-5. In the No. 3 spot was Stephanie Broussard and Rachel Swindell winning 6-4.
Only one match went to three sets in singles play. Smith opened up singles competition winning 6-2 in both sets followed by Braeden (6-3, 6-2). Nelson won 7-6 (1), 6-0, as well as Worrall in the No. 4 spot 7-6 (3), 6-1. Broussard followed nicely with another two-set win (6-2, 6-1) as well as Swindell who won in three sets (7-5, 5-7, 10-3).
"It was nice to see everyone come out on top," said Hinson. "It takes the whole team working hard to achieve the goals we've set for ourselves. I'm proud of what we did out there. We are looking forward to building on these performances when we face North Dakota on Sunday."
