EWU’s Season Wraps Up in NCAA West Preliminary Round

Keshun McGee closes out the season by placing 33rd in the triple jump

The Eastern Washington University track and field team's season has come to an end with sophomore Keshun McGee competing in the last day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, Calif., Saturday (May 26).

McGee placed 33rd overall in the triple jump with a mark of 49-2 1/4. The Bremerton, Wash., native had also competed in the long jump on Thursday (May 24) and earned 35th.

"Keshun had a decent day, but needed something a notch or two above that to move onto Eugene," men's head coach Stan Kerr said. "As such, he was still the last man standing in our 2017-2018 season and is likely to be the first man standing as we open up our 2018-2019 with the Candy Cane 11 meet next December."

Overall, a total of seven Eagles competed at the meet. Senior Jeremy VanAssche was the closest to making it to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9 as he advanced to the quarterfinals in the 100 meters.

"Keshun had a brilliant year and we're certain he'll be a NCAA finalist in the years ahead," Kerr said. "Coach Nielsen has done terrific work with Keshun and we're looking forward many memorable experiences (jumps) from Keshun and the entire jumps squad."
