Eagles Fall to Northern Colorado on the Road 3-1

EWU is back in action net Sunday, Oct. 7 in Idaho

Box Score CHENEY, Wash.—The Eastern Washington University soccer team took on the Northern Colorado Bears today (Sept. 30) in Greeley, Colo., to a loss of 3-1.
 
"We played about as poorly as we could today and UNC punished us," said head coach Chad Bodnar. "We got beat in every aspect of the game today and look forward to getting home and back to work on Tuesday."

Eager to get the game rolling the Eagles took the first shot from Allison Raniere but UNC's goalie Taylor Washington was there for her first save of the match. The Eagles took three shots in the first 10 minutes of play from Raniere, Janae Lee and Kaelyn Barnes but the ball was not able to connect for a goal.
 
The Bears took their first shot of the match in the 18th minute of play and it resulted in a goal making the score 1-0. UNC scored their first goal of the match from Courtney Elterman. Elterman was able to fight through the backend defenders in the box and send the ball into the net past Winston.
 
The Eagles tried to answer back with a shot from Kaelyn Barnes but UNC's goalie was there for her third save of the first half. After 45 minutes of play the score remained at 1-0 with the Bears on top. EWU outshot UNC four to two with three shots on goal and they took one corner kick in the first half. Barnes and Raniere led the Eagles in total shots in the first half with two, followed by Lee who had one.

Returning from halftime, the Eagles opened up with a corner kick from Raniere but was unable to connect for a goal. UNC attempted a shot in the 54th minute but Kelsee Winston was there for the save, marking her second of the game.
 
In the 63rd minute of play the Bears scored their second goal of the match making the score 2-0. The goal came from UNC's Lindsi Jennings off of a free kick from the midfield. EWU tried to answer back with Mya Elder-Hammond's shot but the ball hit the crossbar.
 
Another UNC goal occurred in the 79th minute of play off of a corner kick from Lexi Pulley with the assist from Maddie Barkow.
 
The Eagles saw their first goal of the match from Saige Lyons in the 86th minute of play with the assist from Devan Talley. Lyons sent the ball right past the goalie into the back of the net after a through ball from Talley.
 
With the time running down the Eagles were unable to score any other goals in the match and the scored remained 3-1 after 90 minutes of play.
 
Win-Loss Record
The Eagles now have an overall record of 5-5-3 and 1-2-1 in Big Sky Conference play. The Bears move up to a 7-5 overall record and 3-0 in conference.
 
Keys to the Game
Saige Lyons scored the Eagles lone goal of the match in the 86th minute of play. Kaelyn Barnes led the team in total shots today with two.
 
Notables
EWU's goalie Kelsee Winston recorded 90 minutes in the net and had four saves for the Eagles.
 
Lyons' goal in today's match was her first goal of the season.
 
What's Next
EWU will be back in action next Sunday, Oct. 7, for their third conference road trip match against Idaho in Moscow, Idaho at 1 p.m. Pacific time.
