Eastern Washington University senior women's golfer
Madalyn Ardueser and senior football player
Jayson Williams have been selected as the first Scholar-Athletes of the Month as selected by the EWU athletic department for their performances in September.
Â
Ardueser is from Eugene, Ore., and graduated from Willamette High School, and is a communication studies major with a 3.79 grade point average. Williams graduated in 2015 from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash., and has a 3.39 GPA as a double major in marketing and finance. He's already completed requirements toward his marketing degree.
Â
After a record-setting performance at the Battle at Old Works, Ardueser was selected as the Big Sky Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 18. She finished first with a six-under-par total of 210 strokes, which is an Eastern Washington program record for lowest three-round total by an individual. Her 69 in the third round tied a career-low, which is also tied for fourth all-time for the lowest one-round total in EWU history. The victory helped lead the Eagles to a second-place finish with a school-record 888 strokes, finishing just three strokes behind first-place Cal Poly. Eastern Washington shot a 294-295-299 and beat all competing Big Sky schools.
Â
She followed that with a victory at the Rose City Collegiate Tournament on Sept. 30-Oct. 1, earning her another Big Sky Golfer of the Week nod on Oct. 2. She shot a one-under-par 215 in the tourney in Aurora, Ore., winning by four strokes. She also had a 69 in the second round of that tourney.
Â
Williams caught 14 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns in four games in the month, helping EWU go 2-2 in those contests. He had just one career touchdown reception entering the year, but had two versus Jacksonville State on Sept. 14 and one against Idaho the week after on Sept. 21.
Â
He had a career-high seven receptions at Jacksonville State, good for 54 yards. Williams added 59 yards on six catches at Idaho, and for the season has 15 catches for 134 yards and three scores. In his 41-game career (seven as a starter), he has 60 receptions for 703 yards and four touchdowns.
