CEDAR CITY, Utah-- The Eastern Washington University women's tennis team traveled to Southern Utah today (April 19) where they defeated the Thunderbirds 4-3. After today's victory the Eagles now have an overall record of 12-8 and 8-1 in Big Sky Conference play. With this record, Eastern now sits in first place in the Big Sky and will await the results of tomorrow's match (April 20) against Idaho and Northern Arizona as the two are behind EWU in second place with identical 7-1 conference records.
"We really had to battle with all we had to get the win today," said head coach
Dustin Hinson. "We fought through windy conditions but this team just keeps stepping up. We said before the match that we had to go out there and just find a way to make it happen. We knew it was going to be tough but we also knew that giving it our absolute all was going to make the reward that much sweeter. I feel like I keep saying the same thing about this team but they keep showing me what it's like to be gritty. They just keep stepping up and everyone is giving their all. It's a team win and they are showing that they want it."
"We had to come back to get four of the singles matches after dropping a tough doubles point. But there was no give in this team. Things were tied 3-3 with
Zoey Nelson left on court two. She dug in to come back from a set down and down 0-3 in the second to win a thriller and clinch the match. I can't say enough about how happy I am for all of the girls to continue tasting success. It's given us the desire to reset and be ready for the next match coming up against Northern Arizona on Sunday."
