Eastern Washington University women's tennis player
Rylee Braeden and men's track and field competitor
Isaac Barville have been selected as the April Scholar-Athletes of the Month as selected by the EWU athletic department.
Â
A sophomore, Braeden helped lead the Eagles to a runner-up regular season finish in the Big Sky Conference recently, and has a 3.62 grade point average as a biochemistry major. She is from Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas.
Â
A local product out of University High School in Spokane, Wash., Barville is a senior academically and junior athletically who will be graduating this spring. He has a 3.47 GPA as a communications major with a minor in business administration, and has won multiple Big Sky Conference All-Academic honors in his career.
Â
Braeden helped the Eagles finish 4-2 during the month of April when the team defeated Sacramento State for the first time in program history and snapped Idaho's undefeated conference record. Individually, she garnered a singles record of 4-2 and a doubles record of 5-1 during the month, competing at the No. 3 and No. 1 spots, respectively.
Â
During the final week of the regular season, Braeden finished 4-0 after picking up wins in both singles and doubles play to help lift Eastern over Southern Utah en route to a No. 4 seed at the conference championships. She was awarded the program's first Big Sky Player of the Week award since 2015 on April 23 for her efforts.
Â
Most recently, Braeden earned a spot on the First-Team All-Big Sky Doubles squad after herself and teammate
Madeline Lamoreaux put together a doubles record of 15-5 (9-1 Big Sky) this season. The mark ranks third all-time in program history for doubles wins. She also compiled a 9-11 singles record and won her final three matches of the season while helping the Eagles finish 12-10 on the season with a program-record 8-2 mark in Big Sky play.
Â
Barville recorded the ninth-fastest time in school history in the 1,500 meters when he had a 3:49.95 time in mid-April at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. He won the 1,500 at the War 12 Track and Field Meet in early April in Spokane, and one week earlier was victorious in both the 800 and 1500 at the Al Manuel Northwest Challenge in Missoula, Mont.
Â
He was 12th in the 1500 at last year's Big Sky Conference Championships, and currently is ranked ninth in the league. The Big Sky Championships are May 8-11 in Missoula.
