Eastern Washington University women's track and field competitor
Madison Doepker and men's tennis player
Jeremy Field have been selected as the May Scholar-Athletes of the Month as selected by the EWU athletic department.
Â
Doepker is a junior from Walla Walla (Wash.) High School, and is an accounting major with a 3.98 grade point average. Field is from Seyssinet-Pariset, France, and attended Grenoble Academy. He has a 3.55 GPA as an economics major.
Â
Doepker earned a pair of All-Big Sky Conference honors by finishing in the top three in two events in May at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships. She had a season-best throw of 154-8 in the javelin to win that event after placing third as a sophomore. She was third in the hammer in 2019 with a throw of 193-2.
Â
She went on to compete at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, Calif., where she placed 34th in the javelin (141-6) and 41st in the hammer (178-9). Her mark of 154-8 in the javelin ranks ninth in school history, and her 194-6 best in the hammer is fourth. The school record is 203-1 set in 2016 by Kaytlyn Coleman, and Doepker will have her senior season in 2020 to try to break that record.
Â
Indoors, Doepker has a best of 59-4 3/4 in the 20-pound weight throw to rank sixth in EWU history. Later this month she will be named to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team for the outdoor season, making her a perfect 6-of-6 thus far in her winning those accolades.
Â
During the 2018-19 season, Field recorded an overall singles record of 12-7 and 7-3 in Big Sky play, ultimately landing himself first team All-Big Sky Conference honors after being selected to the second team last season. The senior primarily competed at No. 1 in singles play throughout his final season as an Eagle.
Â
He recorded just three losses on Big Sky play this season and won six out of his 10 final matches for Eastern. Field ended his career on a three-match winning streak, defeating opponents from Montana State, Montana and Idaho.
Â
Along with his success in singles play this season, the senior also recorded an overall record of 8-10 (overall) and 3-6 (Big Sky) in doubles play. Field teamed up with teammate
Mikayel Khachatryan for an overall record of 6-7.
Field will also be selected to the Big Sky Conference All-Academic team when that squad is released later this month. The Morgan State transfer was also on the Big Sky All-Academic team in 2018.
