BOISE, Idaho, - The Eastern Washington University soccer team competed against the Boise State Broncos in Boise, Idaho, today (Aug. 25). The Eagles scored first, but could not secure the lead and dropped the 5-2 decision.
"Boise State is a very athletic team that punished our mistakes. We scored some good goals and had quality stretches where we passed the ball well," said head coach
Chad Bodnar. "We just made some bad mistakes and with the players Boise State has up top, we paid for it."
Eastern's freshman
Madison Kem opened up the scoring with a penalty kick from a hand ball in the seventh minute to put EWU up 1-0. The lead did not last long as Boise State responded 19 seconds later when forward Raimee Sherle scored from an assist by Mikayla Schachtell in the seventh minute as well.
The Eagles battled hard, but Boise State put up four shots before senior Mckenna Kynett scored in the 19th minute from an assist by Sherle. The Eagles tied the game in the 31st minute when
Riley Walkington netted the equalizer past the BSU keeper off of an assist by
Saige Lyons.
Boise State held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first half as Raven Sweeney scored in the 39th minute.
Returning from halftime, the Eagles created seven opportunities but it was the Broncos who managed to score in the 70th minute. A solo goal from Lillie French gave Boise State a 4-2 lead. Sherle sealed the game in the 71st minute when she dribbled down the field and put the ball in the back of the net.
The Eagles had a few more chances to score including a shot by Walkington in the 80th minute from a corner kick but Boise State's
goalkeeper was there for the save as the Eagles dropped the 5-2 decision.

After today's match, the Eagles are now 1-1-0 overall while the Boise State Broncos advance to 2-0-0.
Key Stats
EWU recorded 15 shots during the match with four on target and recorded five saves. The Eagles had five corner kicks in the match as well.
