News Release from the Big Sky Conference . . .
FARMINGTON, Utah (January 15, 2021) – The Big Sky Conference has announced an update to its 2021 football spring season and indoor track & field championship, following a meeting by its Presidents' Council earlier this week.
Nine Big Sky teams -- including Eastern Washington University -- will play the full six-game football conference schedule in the spring of 2021 to compete for the conference championship while Montana, Montana State, and Portland State announced that they intend to play a smaller non-conference schedule that is still to be determined. Sacramento State announced on October 15 that it would not compete this season.
Â
An updated Big Sky conference schedule, game times, and broadcast clearances will be announced at a later date. Each member institution will determine stadium capacities in accordance with local and/or state health ordinances and government officials.
The NCAA FCS Playoffs will feature 16 teams with 11 automatic qualifiers and five at-large berths. The bracket will be announced on Sunday, April 18, with a champion being crowned in Frisco, Texas, on May 14, 15, or 16.
Â
The Presidents' Council also ratified that the 2021 Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships would not be held in February as scheduled due to local health restrictions and capacity concerns.Â

Statement from EWU Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey . . .
"We respect the positions of other league schools and are looking forward to continuing our own path to compete. Our interim president, Dr. David May, has done a stellar job in representing us with our conference peers and keeping the door open for us to compete this spring. Our group of athletic directors is going to work very quickly to re-visit the spring football schedule, and will make appropriate changes soon. This is a very fluid time and we need to continue to be ready to adjust to inevitable change as we navigate the Covid-19 pandemic. We remain committed to our student-athletes, coaching staff, and supporters of Eagle Athletics."
