A LOOK AT THE EAGLES:
The Eagles currently sit with an overall record of 0-3 after battling Gonzaga, Arkansas State and Washington State, respectively.
EWU goalkeeper
Kelsee Winston is currently placed first in the Big Sky Conference for saves per game with 28 saves across all three competitions this season. Furthermore, Winston holds the top-spot for most saves in a single match with 12, following EWU's match at Washington State last weekend, which was one-shy of her career-high.
Knowing Your Opponent: Seattle
The Redhawks are led by head coach Julie Woodward who begins her 25th season at the helm of the women's soccer program.
"Seattle U has had an incredible start to the season. They just went down and tied the defending National Champions Santa Clara last week, and then beat a very good San Diego team. Having played in the West Coast Conference and being very familiar with that conference, I know it will be a really incredible weekend for my squad," said head coach
Missy Strasburg. "The Seattle program has a lot of sophistication with regards to how they play and they are very adaptable and fluid in their shape, not to mention it's a very high IQ style of playing and thinking that the team brings. Seattle U will present a different challenge for us. We will see a lot of athleticism and I really feel we are going to see a lot of different sophisticated attacking elements thrown at us from them on Thursday."
The Eagles have yet to find victory over the Redhawks as they hold an all-time series record of 0-8. Seattle U is currently 2-1-1 overall this season and has scored a total of seven goals and six assists with graduate student Leahi Manthei leading the way with three goals individually.
Knowing Your Opponent CSU Bakersfield
The Roadrunners are led by Sebastian Vecchio who enters his third season at the forefront of his program and holds an overall record of 0-2-1 thus far this season.
"I haven't seen much of this team in the last couple years, but they are always what I called 'California competent'," mentioned Strasburg. "They are a team full of California kids and they are always tidy on the ball. I expect some physicality from them as it will be a good challenge for us to put together a quality 90 minutes to get a result."
The Eagles currently hold an all-time winning record of 5-2-2 and a six-match unbeaten streak against the Roadrunners. The last battle against CSUB dates back to the fall of 2019 when the Eagles clinched a 3-2 victory on the road in a match that saw three lead changes and a game-winning goal late in the match. The victory marked the second-straight season that Eastern Washington had defeated CSU Bakersfield.
Additionally, EWU is 2-1-1 all-time at home versus the California program.
What's Next: The Eagles travel to a neutral spot in San Antonio, Texas on Sept. 10 to compete against Arkansas at 3 p.m. PT.
Following the match, EWU returns home to host St. Thomas on Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. PT at the EWU Soccer Field before finalizing the pre-season at Texas Tech on Sept. 19 in Lubbock, Texas.
