Eagles fall to the Hornets 2-1

Eastern Washington takes its first loss at home this season versus Sacramento State

Eastern Washington women's soccer started its final homestand of the season on Friday afternoon, falling to Sacramento State, 2-1. 

At the beginning of the match, the Eagles were quick to score the first goal. Elisabeth Cole took the free kick off of a foul and she set up Maddie Morgan for a quick score in the lower left portion of the goal in the 3rd minute. Morgan got her fourth goal on the season for the Eagles and the first goal of the match. 

Morgan led the team with four shots with two on goal for today's match. Grace Terrill and Kalista Kakou each put up three shots and one on goal each as well. Brooke Flores was active as well for the Eagles, putting up two shots and one on goal. 

Throughout the match, possession of the ball was close between both teams as the Eagles had possession for 52% and Sac St. had possession for 48%.

Eastern had a 1-0 lead over the Hornets going into the half.

Right out of the break, Aubrey Goodwill assisted Lexi Rakela for the Hornet's first goal in the 48th minute. As Goodwill took the corner kick for the Hornets, Rakela was set up outside and received the ball to score in the lower right portion of the goal. Not too long after, in the 51st minute, Jasmyne Dunn took the ball up the field and scored the Hornet's second goal of the match. Dunn got the second goal for the Hornets that put them on top 2-1 over the Eagles. 

Abigail Lopez led the Hornets in shots with a total of four, with one on goal. Dunn and Rakela collected three shots as well, as Dunn had one shot on goal and Rakela had two.

  • The Eagles took 17 total shots and eight shots on goal.

  • Kamryn Willoughby made two saves.

  • Eastern was called for nine fouls.

Sac St.

  • The Hornets took a total of 11 shots, with four shots on goal

  • Mia Shalit collected seven saves.

  • Sac St. was called for 10 fouls.

 

Up Next

Eastern Washington still has one more home match left in the Big Sky, as they take on Portland State this Sunday, October 16th at 1 p.m. Pacific Time. The match will be senior day, as Eastern will honor Alyssa McKenzie, Mareonna Henderson, Kalista Kakou, Brooke Flores and Mya Elder-Hammond before taking the field.
