Last Time Out
The Eagles competed in the Outrigger Rainbow Classic last week, playing three games in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Eastern won its first game of the season on Monday (Nov. 14) against Mississippi Valley State, 60-52.
Angelo Allegri was the top contributor with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory.
To open the tournament, the Eagles dropped the first game to the defending Ivy League champions, Yale (11/11), 60-74. The second game of the tournament was a contest against the host school, Hawaii (11/13), with Eastern falling 51-71.
Allegri was named to the Outrigger All-Tournament team after scoring 30 points and collecting 14 rebounds in the three games.
A Look at the Eagles
Through the first four games of the season, Eastern is averaging 76.9 points per game, while allowing 74.6 from opponents. The team has a 45.4 collective shooting percentage and is 35.2 percent from behind the arc.
The offense for Eastern Washington runs through
Angelo Allegri early in the season. The senior leads the team with 12.3 points per game and is shooting 40.5 percent from the floor and 31.8 from three-point range. Allegri scored a season-best, 19 points against Santa Clara (11/7) to open the 2022-23 schedule.
The Eagles have been effective in blocking shots this season, averaging 3.5 a game to rank third in the Big Sky.
Ethan Price is the conference's block leader with six this season, averaging 1.5 a game. The sophomore is also tied for sixth in the Big Sky with 7.5 rebounds per game. Price recorded nine rebounds against Santa Clara and Mississippi Valley St. this season.
In his first season at Eastern,
Tyreese Davis is one of 25 players in the nation with a 100 percent free throw percentage, also ranking first in the conference. Davis is eight-of-eight from the line in three games played. The redshirt-junior is averaging 8.7 points per game and is shooting 50 percent on the season.
Steele Venters has been drawing extra attention from defenses this season after an outstanding 2020-21 campaign. The All-Big Sky second team selection is still averaging 8.0 points per game, scoring 15 against Yale.
Casey Jones has stepped up his role this season and already has a double-double to his name, getting 10 points and 10 rebounds against Santa Clara. The sophomore is second on the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and fourth with a 6.3 points per game average.
Scouting the Cougars
Washington State is 1-2 to start the season, dropping its last two matchups on the court. The Cougars lost, 70-59, to Prairie View A&M and 71-61 to Boise State, both on the road. WSU opened their season with an 83-61 win over Texas State.
Junior guard TJ Bamba has scored in double figures the last two games, with a career-high 24 points against Boise State. He leads the team with 16 points a game on 53.3 percent shooting. Sophomore forward Mouhamed Gueye is a preseason All-Pac 12 selection after earning All-Freshman honors last season.Â
Injuries have forced head coach Kyle Smith to shuffle his rotation and play seven newcomers on the court this season.
Series History
Eastern Washington is 2-15 against Washington State in program history. The Eagles defeated the Cougars last season in Pullman, with a 76-71 win. It was Eastern's first win against WSU since 1997.

This holiday weekend, Eastern Washington will be in Miami, Fla. as Florida International will host a three-day tournament. Eastern will play Stony Brook on Friday, Nov. 25 at 2:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against FIU on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m.
