Eagles Compete Tough, Miss Against Bengals

Idaho State hands Eastern Washington first conference loss of the season

Eastern Washington women's tennis team continued Big Sky competition on Friday night, dropping its first match of the weekend to Idaho State, 6-1. The Eagles came up a match short in doubles competition, while Renata Gabuzyan picked up a win in singles.

"Tough loss today. We faced a tough team who played well in the key moments," head coach Dustin Hinson said. "We had good effort and great desire throughout, so I can't fault the fight we brought to each match. Ultimately, we didn't execute as well as we needed to when we had the shots to win points. We need to be better in that area and bounce back for Sunday's match. I'm really happy for Renata Gabuzyan to get wins in both doubles and singles today. She played really well and earned it today."

Gabuzyan won her singles match at the No. 5 spot in straight sets(6-4, 7-6). She also partnered with Kenzington Mann at the No. 2 doubles spot, notching a 6-3 win.

After the match tonight, Eastern has a 2-1 conference record and 3-7 overall this season.
