Haruguchi Adds DuBose, Muff to Coaching Staff

Grayson DuBose and Taylor Muff will fill out the bench for new head coach Jon Haruguchi

The staff for the 2022 season is coming together as head volleyball coach Jon Haruguchi announced today (May 5) the hiring of two coaches in Grayson DuBose and Taylor Muff. DuBose will serve as associate head coach and Muff will serve as assistant coach.

Grayson DuBose
DuBose comes to Cheney after an established career in the college ranks. Recently, DuBose was the head volleyball coach for Utah State from 2006 to 2019, the longest tenured coach in program history.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Coach Haruguchi and the Eagles' Volleyball program," DuBose said. "We have known each other for several and I have admired not just his volleyball knowledge, but who he is as a person. I am looking forward to being in the gym and getting to work with our staff and these young ladies.  Go Eagles!"

During his time in Logan, Utah, DuBose won 187 games to rank second in the program's history. He also coached 25 all-conference selections and was named WAC Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2012. In addition, DuBose coached 115 academic all-conference selections.

Before taking over at Utah State, DuBose spent four seasons at BYU as an assistant for the men's volleyball team, helping the Cougars to the 2004 national title. DuBose started his coaching career as an assistant at Utah State from 1999 to 2001. He also had a stop at New Mexico from 2001 to 2002.

DuBose graduated from BYU with a degree in history and earned his teaching certificate from Utah State. He and his wife, Lenonnie, have three children, Kline, Cassandra and Jackson.

Haruguchi on DuBose: "I am so excited to have Grayson joining us here at Eastern.  He brings a wealth of knowledge with regards to coaching, recruiting and overall program management that I know will be a huge asset for myself and the team. Grayson and I built a great relationship over the past several years and I respect what he has brought to our sport on the men's and women's side. The team and I are very excited for Grayson to get in the gym and help us reach new heights."

Taylor Muff
Muff joins the Eastern staff after a decorated playing career at Northern Colorado, where she was coached by Haruguchi.

"I am thrilled and honored to be joining the Eastern Washington Volleyball team, be reunited with Coach Haruguchi, and also work alongside Coach DuBose," said Muff. "Both of these men know the nuances of the game of volleyball and I consider myself extremely lucky to coach beside them! I am also looking forward to stepping back into the Big Sky Conference and using my recent experience as a student-athlete to navigate this team to success. Go Eags!"

While at UNC, Muff was a Big Sky All-Conference selection in 2019 and 2020. Muff finished her career with 1149 kills to rank fifth in the program's Division I history. She also recorded 1064 digs to rank seventh and 114 service aces to rank third. In her senior season, Muff was named the captain by her teammates. After graduating, Muff went to the University of Texas Rio Grande to pursue a graduate degree. Muff switched sports to play basketball at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and became an all-conference selection, along with team captain.

Muff earned her bachelor's degree in sport and exercise science from UNC and is working on her master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Management from the UTRGV. She is the daughter of Kevin and Kim Muff, while having two older siblings, Alex and Skyler.

Haruguchi on Muff: "The opportunity to work with Taylor, after coaching her for four years at UNC, is something for which I am very grateful. Being a former DI athlete and two-time, all-conference selection within the Big Sky gives her a unique perspective on how to be successful at a high level. It is that perspective I know she will share with our staff and our athletes that will bring out the best in us all."
