We are in the final week of the non-conference schedule for Eastern Washington women's soccer. The Eagles will travel to play San Jose State on Thursday, Sep. 15 at 7 p.m. Pacific Time, followed by a match against Boise State on Sunday, Sep. 18 at 12 p.m.
Last Time Out
Eastern Washington went 2-0 last week at EWU Soccer Field, starting with a win over North Dakota, 1-0, on Friday.
Maddie Morgan scored the only goal of the game in the 59
th minute to give Eastern the win. On Sunday, the Eagles had a commanding win over Louisiana, 4-1, with
Madison Kem,
Corina Froehle,
Mya Elder-Hammond and
Grace Terrill scoring.
Scouting the Eagles
Eastern is 3-3-2 on the season and has built its first winning streak after sweeping its two-match home stand this past week. The Eagles have registered nine goals this season, averaging 1.13 per match. The team ranks fourth in the Big Sky in both goals and goals per game.
Kem leads Eastern will two goals, both coming on penalty kicks. The junior midfielder is tied for sixth in the conference in goals scored. In total, eight different Eagles have goals this season. Morgan leads the team with two assists and is tied for sixth in the Big Sky. The junior forward also has one goal and leads the team with five shots on goal.
In goal, Eastern leads the conference with 6.00 saves per game, making 48 total saves to rank first as well.
Kamryn Willoughby has provided 29 saves for the Eagles and has two shutouts in her freshman season. Willoughby averages 1.79 goals allowed per game and has played 554:59 minutes. Elder-Hammond scored her first goal of the season against Louisiana and has played in 703 of the team's 720 minutes for Eastern this season.
Scouting the Spartans
San Jose State enters the week 0-3-3 after earning draws in the past three matches. The Spartans three-match draw streak includes Pacific(1-1), Denver(1-1) and UC Santa Barbara(2-2). The team has four goals scored this season and has allowed 11 in six matches.
This season, sophomore Bella Flocchini is the team leader in points, with one goal and one assist. Senior midfielder Kiana Miyazato leads SJSU with seven shots.
Eastern Washington is 1-1 against the Spartans in program history, with the last match taking place in August of 2017. The teams met in Missoula, Mont., with the Spartans winning, 3-0.
Scouting the Broncos
Boise State has a 3-2-2 record on the season and is currently on a one-match winning streak. The Broncos are 1-1-1 at home. This past week, Boise won a 5-1 match against CSU Bakersfield on the road and had a 2-2 draw against UC Davis. The Broncos will host Montana on Thursday before playing the Eagles on Sunday. In the team's seven matches this season, Boise has 16 goals and has allowed 10.
Freshman forward Hayden Wilsey has accounted for five of the team's goals this season, while registering seven shots. Senior midfielder Morgan Stone leads the Broncos with 13 shots and has three goals and one assist this season.
Eastern has struggled against Boise St. in program history with a 1-12-1 overall record. The Eagles dropped a road match, 2-5, against the Broncos in August of 2019.
