The win streak just keeps going for Eastern Washington men's basketball, as they defeated Northern Colorado, 83-75. Eastern has now won nine consecutive games and remains undefeated in the Big Sky with a 7-0 record for a 13-7 overall record. UNC falls to 1-6 in the Big Sky and 6-13 this season.
Leading the way was
Ethan Price, who tore up the paint with a career-high 23 points.
"[Ethan] had his way down low. When he is able to get a good position and go towards the rim, he has an amazing touch down there. Our guys did a great job of feeding him during the game," head coach
David Riley said. "We've taken great steps in the right direction, this season, for getting great looks on two-point shots. Our shooting spaces out. Even though we didn't shoot well from three, the threat of all five of our guys being able to shoot really played a role in us getting good looks from two. Our defense did a good job too protecting the rim. [UNC] is a really good shooting team. They have three guys and our players talked in the huddle to make sure those three were covered. We had some good stretches defensively. Our goal for every game is 10 turnovers or less each game. I'm really excited about that, and we have to stay consistent with the ball."
Ethan Price started strong for Eastern, scoring six points in the paint to build an early 6-3 lead. Each team was shooting well early in the game.
Steele Venters hit his first three at 15:09 and the Eagles were on top 14-10. The Bears fired right back with their own three and the back-and-forth contest continued. After Eastern led 19-16, UNC scored four-straight to take the lead with 11:31 on the clock. The Bears would extend the lead to 25-21, but Eastern was not going away. On a layup from Stoud, the Eagles trailed just 27-28 with 7:29 left in the half.
Tyreese Davis would give Eastern the lead with the driving layup on the team's next possession. UNC then put together a 7-2 stretch to take the lead back for the Eagles. The counter was delivered by
Angelo Allegri and Venters, as both scored to tie the game at 35 with 2:45 remaining. Allegri would give Eastern the lead with a jumper and
Casey Jones then extended it with his layup. The Eagles led the Bears 39-35 at halftime, shooting an impressive 56.7 percent. UNC also shot well, holding a 50.0 percent mark.
The ball was flying to begin the second half, as the Eagles and Bears picked up the scoring. Price continued his strong night with a three-pointer make for a 46-41 Eastern lead. Venters made two jumpers to keep the offense moving for the Eagles. UNC was matching the scores and kept the game in single digits. Next up for Eastern, Davis would get inside again, along with converting a pair of free throws. The Eagles led 60-52 with 9:17 left in the game. The Bears stayed aggressive to try and cut the lead, but Eastern answered each score. Price would deliver with a dunk and Davis continued driving into the paint for easy scores. The lead was 72-62 with 3:05 remaining on the clock. The Bears would score four-straight points, but Price answered quickly after with another three-pointer. Eastern went on to win the game, 83-75, shooting a staggering 64.0 percent in the game. UNC's shooting fell off with a 35.1 shooting percentage.
Eastern cracked 60.0 percent shooting, while keeping the Bears to a 41.5 percent.
