CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University and Eastern Washington University Athletics will introduce the sale of beer at remaining men's and women's basketball competitions.
"In an effort to provide an exceptional gameday experience for Eagle fans, the introduction of this amenity will not only enhance game experience but create new revenue opportunities for Eagle Athletics," shared Lynn Hickey, EWU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics.
"This will provide an opportunity to explore similar amenities in future competitions throughout our facilities while strategically expanding revenue generation across various seasons. These new revenues will aid us in our mission to serve student-athletes during their time here in Cheney while continuing to increase the Eagle fan experience"
Beer sales will be available starting with the men's basketball game on Feb. 16. Service at each game will begin when doors open one hour prior to tipoff and close at the 10-minute mark of the second half. Sales will conclude at the end of the third quarter for women's games.
In conjunction with the sale of beer at Reese Court, EWU Athletics will launch a "Drink Responsibly" campaign in and around the facility on all game days. Data from peer institutions indicates that making beer available for purchase in general seating areas decreased alcohol-related incidents within the venue. EWU has previously sold beer and wine in premium seating areas, as well as designated beer gardens.
